Sky Song

i’m always the last one out on
the punch stained dance floor
follow your footsteps stand where you were
scarlet pools around my feet
wishing my trembling hands would find a seat
you’re watching me from the other side
through your telescope you saw me cry
did you know i’d become the world for you
turn into oceans because i’ve been so blue

and i’ve always been my father’s girl
in my pretty dresses i give him a twirl
knowing one day i will disappear
let the wind take me far from here

oh build me the moon
and sink it in the river
i have always envied her
but the cold water makes me shiver
did she run away from home
swear at her mom and get tattoos
or was she born with all her craters
cursed with a life she didn’t choose

she said i think you’re a star because you
shine in all the darkest times i said
don’t you think that’s a bit poetic she said
i think i’m a little high
we were watching the sky and
hoping it’d fall
so we could be everything and nothing at all

I Sent You a Voicemail Confessing My Love, But the Service Was Terrible

Hello
I hope all is
   Can
     hear me?
‘ts me
(youknowwho)
     need
    say
Something
Don’t
         hurt
Sorry if
    weird
 (iknowwe’rejustfriends)

             But
I love y

For a while now
You
          stunned
Me
                               took my breath away
  (ifwerebeingcliche)
     like No other
You’ve caught my attention since

      before

Your face
   striking
                            also soft
And your mind
exploding with

joy
         and perfect words and perfect

     when you speak
   your voice a song
and when you laugh

  ‘M sorry
                        wait a
     You hear me?

Icu

i harbor my hope in
the spaces between your fingers. like light
falling slowly and then

all at once, upon docked ship straining for sea, upon moonlit water wishing
it was more like the others wishing
it could see the stars.
you looked down
as i cried,
and i smiled because i
knew the world was watching me fall apart.
did you know i had become it all for you,
let searing universes
burn beneath my skin,
how long have i only been
built from your memories
i wouldn’t know. swallow and
carry on, heave it over your shoulder, act like nothing at all, make yourself insignificant.
this world will never cherish
naive grins with crooked teeth.
instead i befriend
gentle small sliver of the moon,
sputtering satellite deciding she is
pretty enough to be like the others,
lonely star sailors that form shapes only
we thought to name.
strange chattering night,
i feel my youth in my bones,
will you stand next to me one last time and
watch the sky fall
crashing burning breathing have you ever felt so alive?

Vessels

one day i will lose you lover
throw your bones into the creek
leaving rotting flesh yearning
for the gap between my teeth
for i am a patchwork of sorrows
i've been weaving since my birth
did your mother tell you to love me
or did you wish to become cursed
it seems i'm skin and bone and you
sewn up by shaky hands
so until i come apart
will you at least spare me a glance
