Oh Brother

I once had a brother in prison.
He knew what in life he was missin"
So he spent out his days
in profitable ways
and learned because he could listen.

To the Mother of My Children

As seasons go, I value, so, the autumn of my life.
I'm thankful and delighted that you have been my wife.
I may be a miser, wanting to keep what I have held.
I may be a beggar, seeking help so I can build.
I may be a vampire or a sucking leech
who's starving for affection with his suckers out of reach.
I may be a broken down, defeated, lonely man.
I miss you darling, fiercely.
You were a joyous partner, Nan.

Scouts

cub scouts boy scouts, army scouts, talent scouts
outdoor, indoors, camping, hiking, exploring,
learning, earning, helping, sharing,
caring, daring, uniform wearing,
athletic sports, playing games,
earning badges, gaining rank, recognition,
thanks, leaders, mentors, teachers, guides,
brotherhood, lots of pride.

The BSA has so changed their mission and audience that it has become generic and may not stay the course but run aground.

Ode Deer

Deer, Oh, Deer, oh lovely host!
Do you enjoy your Christmas trust?
You pull the sleigh, with magic born,
across the sky 'fore Christmas morn.

Oh. Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen,
Comet, Cupid, Donner, Blitzen,
and Rudolph, do you recall, the very
first Christmas in a manger stall?

Shepherds, sheep, donkeys, and cattle
witnessed the birth in a barn.
Throughout the world animals rejoiced
on the day the Savior was born.

Your ancestors may, on that glorious day,
have looked on a beautiful star.
And known that the marvelous, miraculous,
birth had occurred in a place rather far.

To have been chosen, from your kindred,
to honor His glorious birth and election
so the world would remember, late in December,
is your honorable, noteworthy, selection.

Your existence is fable, unlike the stable,
but your mission is similar to His own;
For you carry peace and joy in a gift or a toy
so Santa can visit each home.

The joy that abounds as Santa makes rounds
is seen in each girl and boy.
To be part of His gift and give children a lift
is indescribably wonderful joy.

To Friends and Family

The best of life is waiting for us to enter in
to covenants and promises and cleanliness from sin.
God's gifts to us are many. We see them everyday.
Good friends, a full and joyful life, are treasures
for which we pray.
In faith, we must believe that Jesus is our Lord.
He wants for us Eternal Life. You are cherished
children, treasured and adored.
When we change our heart and soul, doing all we can.
He welcomes us into His arms. This is His Father's plan.
As we repent of broken ties
He binds and mends our wounds.
He was wounded for our sins.
He came here to atone. Christ bids us to follow Him.
He's obedient to the Plan.
He is obedient to His Father.
We must do all we can. Jesus makes up the difference.
He saves us from the loss.
Sin and sorrow can defeat us.
For us, He paid the cost.
Obedience is the answer. In humility we pray.
We change our lives to honor Him.
He councils. We obey.
Sometimes we stray from the path.
But Christ is always near.
His loving voice is calling us.
His warning is always clear.
Return home with honor. Forgive your fellow man.
God will save us from our sins. He sent One who can!

Shamrock Saint

A leaf of green
appendages 3
was Patrick's example
of the Trinity.

3 in 1 or 1 in 3
only one shamrock
would it be 3?

Father, Son, and Holy Ghost
each to be adored.
All of the are present
but here only is one God.

The Son is not the Father
The Spirit not the Son
but these 3 eternals
are really only one.

Could Patrick be mistaken?
Could there be three?
Each of them supporting
a unity of agree.

The harp, the Lyre, the pipe
all play the same melody
3 instruments in unison
and perfect harmony.

Christ prayed that his disciples
would share his united way.
Standing before the father
there oneness they'd display.

If this is life eternal
to know the Father and the Son,
why then do we insist
that three is only one.

Flutter By

FLUTTER BY

The flutter of the butterfly
whispers in the breeze.
Perchance its wafting action
is more than a daub on canvas,
so dark and dank and cold.
It's folly to paint its flight.
it might be happenstance, but
I left my paints at home.

A Baptism On the Sabbath Day

People gathered, music played,
a silent moment - time delayed.
Then welcoming the gathered folk,
the speaker began with a joke.

Welcoming those who chose to stay
(for some went home right away).
Our need for Him was sent in song.
A brother prayed for the gathered throng.

The speaker told of an earlier time.
When John baptized our Lord, divine.
Then elder and sister went down into the font.
Immersed in water to fill the want.

The elder spoke and then baptized.
A youth's wish was realized.
Freshly washed and cleansed from sin
a new life, beginning fresh, again.

A sister told of a gift treasured most,
The gift of the Holy Ghost.
Then bestowed with laying on of hands.
Membership in Christ's church begins.

A gift received, a welcome made,
"How Great Thou Art" was sung, a sister prayed.
We all witnessed a blessed event.
Christ's love for us is evident.

The Snowman

The snowman stood in silence enjoying the winter chill.
He awoke to observe the beauty seen from atop the hill.
The couple who had come to ski took pleasure in their play.
and, thus, created the snowman who watched them ski away.

He felt the pressing sunshine, and, knowing he was fat,
enjoyed the slimming process until he lost his hat.
Then clouds and winter breezes saved him for another day,
until the kids from Snowtown snowballed his nose away.

His heart was born from sunshine. He could have melted from within.
But brighter skys and warmer days reduced his girth again.
He could be mistaken for a scarecrow. He'd lost most of his size.
The birds who settled on his arms greeted him with,"Surprise!"

He'd hoped to please the children, but his audience was lame.
A forest full of critters was all that ever came.
When it was nearly Christmas, he slowly melted away.
His skeleton was a fir tree that had been impacted with snow clay.

A father saw the little tree, when, reflecting in the sun,
the snowman's sunglasses atop the tree had bid him come.
Carefully, he cut it down. Then carried it home to be
his family's to decorate for their own Christmas tree.

Remembering the birth of Him who gave his life in love
So we can, in gifts of service, bring our own gifts to Him above.
So if you see some children unwrapping gifts under the tree today,
remember, today's Christmas tree may have been a snowman yesterday!
