The Chainsaw

It sits on the ground
Running, but not cutting
Ready for gutting
Violent with sound.

It reminds me of a race-horse
Jittery in the gate
Looking much like fate
And strong in the force.

I imagine that I see
In its calculating eyes
We cannot realize
The destruction it would bring

Were we to let it loose
Flip the cutting switch
Relieve its cutting itch
And begin its life abuse.

It would start with the yard
In front of the house
Dipping in and out
No substance too hard.

All the bushes in between
All the trees, any flowers
In less than an hour
Never again to be seen.

Then goes the door
And the sink a little later
Even the refrigerator
Would fall to the cutting boar.

In a few days, very few indeed
The city, the state, the country
Perhaps the world some day
It'd do no good to plead.

It's roaring to go
To be set free
To slice and puree
Please, Father, say no.

The sigh of relief
As he turns it off
And now I can scoff
At its un-chopped grief.

Concepting My Misconceptions, Or Something

I thought I'd loved before,
I didn't know you were the only one.
I didn't know the meaning of adore,
Or know you're the equivalent of the sun.

Where did I get this misconception of what love truly is?
How was I to know it couldn't originate from a wish?
And what is it about these blasted thoughts that never cease,
That always bring that excited tingly feeling back to me?

I thought I could control my mind,
No words would come unbidden.
But every moment, thoughts of you come undesigned,
And I cannot keep these emotions hidden.

Until now, being wrong never felt so grand.
I talk about you so much, my friends don't understand.
Just what is it about you that always takes my breath away?
Yeah, I really kinda really really want you to stay!

I have so much more to tell.
I could fill pages and pages with it.
But talking to you is just so freaking swell,
That I only want to concentrate on you, for a bit.

Silence

Oh, to lie awake in the dark,
And let the silence wash over me.
No need to feel as happy as a lark,
Content to simply be.
And the silence that surrounds me
Feels and looks and tastes like freedom.
In the silence there is peace
I think that we all need some.
Time fades away along with noise
As day is done and night begins
Time to rest and count your joys
And soak up the silence within.

The Best Gifts I Recieve With Hesitation

The best gifts I receive with hesitation.
I’m unsure, at first, of their worth.
And the greatest things found in creation
Can only be found in rebirth.
A seed planted unknowingly grows,
Slowly what I once knew, I doubt.
Those truths spring up like a wild rose,
Truths I now know I can’t live without.
Who can comprehend the ways of man?
And what is worth to humanity?
Who claims to beauty understand,
Or describe it perfectly?
There is no one definition of need,
No explanation that never fails.
To one, a rose, another, a weed.
To yet another, wind for their sails.
How can I recognize when I’ve been given
Those gifts that sneak up in the dark?
Or know a wildfire sent from Heaven,
When it only starts as a spark?
