Alyssa Stuhr Poem
A rush of force hits my face
As bare skin touches bare skin
And all feeling escapes from my now raw cheek
The stinging subsides but now my heart is pounding hard and loud
He will hear it, he won’t want to hear it
Now he's up in my face as we breathe the same air
And share the same breath
I feel nothing from head to toe
No courage to move
No will to speak
And no energy to fight back
I see her laying lifelessly on the floor
My skin itching and tearing apart
But I can’t seem to stir up any reason to help her
I wanna hit myself for acting like a fool
My chest is tight and breathing now seems impossible
As if shards of glass enter my lungs and pierce every inch
Making my body feel like dead weight
I wanna give up
I will let him win
But he always wins
He gets the first hit, the first laugh, the last punch
I let him paint my body in purple and blue bruises
And abstracts cuts and scratches
To him they are magnificent creations of art
Art that makes the canvas feel ashamed
But the audience feel powerful
It’s all wrong
cruel and sick
But my mother is the one who takes blame for all of it
I killed her by simply just standing still
And watching his big hands vishously wrap around her tiny neck
Straining the life from my mothers deep green eyes
To darks pits of black
He covered her with hated loved to then shower her with roses
It was wrong and I did nothing
So now I must do something
My hands franticly shaking
But my eyes dart across the room
I see it
My way out
My baseball bat that I’ve had forever
That is just simply an accessory of my childhood
But is now a weapon of war
I soar across the room and dismount it from the wall
Instantly swing, and immediately coming in contact with the skull of my father
Not enough to kill but enough to escape
I AM FREE

Alyssa Stuhr Poem
Warm sheets, and covered feet
Scared to move
For the heat could instantly fleet
Droopy eyes, and sour breath
A new day
Another tomorrow
But perhaps I'll stay in bed a little bit longer
Muscles ache, and time continues to tick
But somehow laying in bed makes it all slow down
Time stops
And energy is restored
So now I can be the person I was before
The alarm clock screeches
The ceiling fan buzzes
The dog barks a symphony but I won't budge
Simply just waiting for the sun to fall
For a new day
Another tomorrow
And maybe this time
I won’t want to stay in bed a little bit longer
And the screeching alarm will stop
And the ceiling fan will end its endless spin
And the house will fall quiet
And I’m now ready to start a new day
Another tomorrow
And a more interesting chapter

Alyssa Stuhr Poem
No longer Heaven
And not a country is known for being stronger
With a sun that has no reason to rise
And a moon that doesn't want to set the midnight light
No heat or any weather to try and beat
But streets filled with human waste
And a horrid smell that tastes of incompetence
There is no more glee
For we can’t treat the home we have been giving
With respect and elegance
Plants wilted and unrecognizable
Houses rotted and shattered
Streets cluttered and cracked
And air so sour you will feel that you have no power
No use in restoring it
For everything has been destroyed by Earth's own men
And if one tried one would end up dead
Regret and guilt
But there is no time
Earth is ready to go
And we won’t stop it

Alyssa Stuhr Poem
Starry Night
With calm swirls of blue
And towers filled with dark shades of black
A church and a steeple
And a bright yellow moon
Shining bright
The only moon the city will see tonight
Deep gushes of wind
Blowing lightly across the colorful skyline
For a night so dark and dreary
The city couldn’t be more gracefully lit
A starry night filled with dreams and glorious stars
Is a work of art that you can't buy at any mart
But a piece of work that has had centuries
Of wondrous stares
And curious glares
For the mysterious story, it holds
So deep and bold
But so calm and delicate
Starry Night
