Patrick Doran Poem
He thought that maybe
he was a writer.
That it would make
all their futures
a little bit brighter.
But that’s not going to
put food on the table.
Unless he writes another
Kane and Abel.
Encouragement is
scarce on the ground
and so he begins to flounder.
Questions his methods
and his abilities.
Realises it is time
to wake up to his reality.

Patrick Doran Poem
I would love
to return to France
to try and
save our romance.
Find a Chateau
that we could run.
Down south,
where there is sun.
Spend the summer
helping brides.
While in the winter
we would hide.
Evenings spent
by the fire.
As we rekindle
our desire.
I would love
to return to France.
If you would
give me one more chance.

Patrick Doran Poem
What you see
on the outside
is not what I am
on the inside.
Crippled by
my own fears.
Starting to dread
the oncoming years.
People look and think
that I have it all.
They do not realize
I am heading for a fall.
Everyday, I put on a face
to hide the lies.
Soon enough,
that will crack with my cries.
Cannot see any escape
on the horizon
only a dark chasm
starting to widen

Patrick Doran Poem
By the time I write this
it will be history.
No longer
some great mystery.
Everyone thought
I had tried my best.
But I failed
the most important test.
What they think
will no longer matter.
Now that
my life is in tatters.
Alone for good
with an empty space
where you stood.
I drove you
to the brink
of exhaustion.
Until eventually
you gave way to caution.
Packed up
your things and
told me no more.
Put on your coat
and walked out the door.

Patrick Doran Poem
Feel this beating in my chest
why for once just let me rest.
Fear is back with a bang
followed by the usual gang.
Doubt turns up to wonder why,
misery is next and it can't lie.
Anger comes to sort you out,
loneliness won't let you shout.
One by one they cripple you
until you realise it's nothing new.
