Despite the thorns that prick our bones,
chains of hopelessness that hold us tight,
Pains that imprison our tongues
Or the venomous threats we fight
There's always a falling action to every story
the chance to put broken pieces together again
mend them, and be born anew not of the history
but of hope and endurance through the pain
We are the roots that grow
when the leaves, stems or branches fall
we are the candle wigs that glow
Even when the wax is freezing cold
Like a snake unshells itself a new creature
Born afresh, we can unshell ourselves
and be free of the pains, scars or fracture
in our bones and be new bodies
