Where have
You gone
Consumed by tears and mournful dirge
Silent poetry flows with lamented wind
Thy gaunt
Look wanes
Each night.
Dark roots
Embrace thee,
Deep-seated sorrow unsettling and numbing.
Erstwhile bitter struggles, hesitating in darkness;
Thy soft
Bare lips
Grave laden.
Darkness awakes
The unhurried
Moon, cooling the unburnished fractured heart;
Never an earthly seraph to console
Thy lament
Dissipating soul’s
Ceaseless ache.

I do dread this air
Blown from the far side
of despair
With that still hearth
Rusting unburnished
Among those barren crags
Never to shine use after use
Living life to the lees
Though much is taken
Though many abide
Whose mere margin fades
While that great world
grows weak and old
I still do dread this air...
