The bittersweet
prelude
that marks
the end.
Of crimson bowls laden deep with morning glory
and sweet tinged scents
Sit high upon the hearth.
The kindred smiles welcome a new year coming
cast broken spirits into night's dark
What lurks aside this fleeting moment of laughter and content
when energies abound and dreams unending toss caution to the wind
The aftermath of thriftless spending hits hard beneath the skin
to mourn in silent keeping and believing in better days that lie ahead.
