Daybreak

Sun rises over open sedge; soft supple light sweeps across accordion bay. White Egrets in blue skies praise another day.

snuggled amongst the clouds, shy
and a smile, the moon listens
to the bullfrog mid cattails and sedge

Sweet flux of stream ripples
stone amulets graze mohs
scale of gold rush hardness
svelte limb fragrant pink clouds
span azure blue awning
sedge-warbler’s grassland pine
spellbound spring sibling sighs...

Slow fog dances along the river’s edge Mingling with the flowering dusty sedge, And climbing up the rocky granite ledge Where you and I made our first pledge.

Premium Member A Final Adieu They Parted
Sun light
   escapes
      between
dramatic dark clouds

ships sail
in the distance
  away
from waves of the sea

   adieu
      sigh
she sites

   cold
      wind
         blows

  on shore
in tall sedge blades

the glebe
the veldt
         the steppes
         the glens-
the dells
     filled
     with
     sedge
and
   vetch
     pebbles
      sand
and
   tufts
      of
       grass
catch
the
wind:
     the salt air
succours
thirsty
poppies
   so fair...

Accidentally I stumbled on the hidden pool,
I saw her there among the sedge, so lovely and cool,

"Come swim with me," she smiled in an angelic way.
Euphorically my heart beat fast with radiant sway.

How fast I swam towards that heavenly vision,
Only to see her vanish in a colourful prism....

White water lily rooted deep
Profusive alba in flora peep;
Over the surface,upside down
Waterboatman-nature's clown.
Spiders spin their bubbled bell
Close to a ramshorn in crimson shell;
Stick insects,two inches long
Feed midst a tumultuous throng;
Mosquitoes,midges and water fleas
Bredd ' neath the shade of willow trees;
Rush,sedge in tall loose strife
In open ponds that team with life....

Fragile Habitats
That first picnic atop Mount Wells
with the silver survival
blanket and flask
steaming with tea and wild flowers bursting
yellow, cerise and indigo deep
in sedge grass, you said
“it takes seven years for Camas to grow
back if trampled,” and
cautiously skirted the ruptures of colour
while I wondered how many
years to recover
if we tread too carelessly

Premium Member The Toad is Ruining My Meal
Teensy tiny toad totally teeters on a goblet edge
In this prissy uppity restaurant! Screamed unappreciative Sedge.
The prices are outrageous! This toad is ruining my meal!
His blind date thought he was acting like a bit of a heel.

He wanted a refund, demanded the chef come their way.
His date, who had brought the toad, quickly ran out and away.
I guess I am the best gauge of character, the tiny toad said.
Yes, she agreed. I love it that you are always here for me, Ned....
