Christmas Rhyme
We can’t afford no tree this year.
We spent it all on dog, and feed.
We got enough to buy birdseed,
and a salt block for the deer.
We scattered seed out on the snow
like freckles, footprints, and little gifts.
And, ain’t it strange how the spirit lifts
to see the birds light up all in a row?
The deer arrive and bow their heads
for the salt lick in the manger.
They’ve traveled far, where spirit led,
no more in any danger.
