With our soul’s valleys
watered with God’s wet spirit,
and his healing love,
be as trees of divine sap
sagely rooted in his work:-
"This strife shall continually overflow this cup,"
To my inquisitive spirit my sagely soul told,
"Until with growing old
Comes growing up."
old man owl
fuzzy around the beak
yellow eyes understanding the forest
today he will let the wife hunt
he stays in the oak tree dispersing advice
being sagely wise
her silky petals
enjoyed by yellow sunshine
happy with the grass
her fragrance wafting
gently in verdant meadow
delighting faeries
lilac leads the way
sagely announcing springtime
sharing lavender
It was exciting and thrilling
To see the stadium filling
Though the day was a’chilling
People around were soon milling
Like pickles in jars sagely dilling
Notice that the Jacks were a’Jilling
Poets in attendance were quilling
Blue jays and cardinals were trilling
My poet’s heart wants to inspire,
Love you, encourage, and uplift
To embrace your writers soul
To show you the respect
You have sagely earned
Your words wow me
Hug my heart
Embrace
Me

Don’t sweat the small stuff,
And it’s all small stuff,
Is sagely advice
For every stage of life.
From birth to death
Everything seems so urgent
As it slips you by
And the next moment
Simply takes its place.
How can it be so effortless
We cry,
As we grasp to hold
What is already past.

The Quickening
by Michael R. Burch
for Beth
I never meant to love you
when I held you in my arms
promising you sagely
wise, noncommittal charms.
And I never meant to need you
when I touched your tender lips
with kisses that intrigued my own—
such kisses I had never known,
nor a heartbeat in my fingertips!
My translation of calligraphy by Ven. Master Chin Kung:
Face difficulty with liberality,
Face hostility with patience,
Steer through scrambles
With leisurely grace and pace,
For peace is found in temperance
And the love of excess speech
Is the root of every calamity!

Here by wide gates
Too much, too late
The comic sigh
Of dying highs
Add more to craze
In winding maze
Round and round trace
True loss of grace
Pain in sure hate
Pound mate and fate
The end comes soon
Ere day greets noon
A sagely fool

Should a fool die
before their sunset time,
Many would lightly regard
this darkly demise
If a fool prematurely died
for being unwise
The pause period, to ponder this err plight,
won’t change too many minds
who scoff surmise
The death of a fool
is frost common as winter cold
Jester years unlearnt
simply weren’t
meant to ever sagely grow old

To my teacher
You imbued ideas
into our subtle minds,
and nurtured them sagely;
You made us ponder
so that we choose the righteous,
and walk through our lives
with confidence and pride;
You my dear teacher
are the one to shape our future,
It was all your hard work
that with ease we can rise and shine.

Memory mulls
Distant dreams dull
Fate fumbles fear
Slow stumble steers
Waltz walking wild
Chance cheeky child
Thoughts trouble tears
Clumsy choice cheers
Bright blooming blunt
Sweet saying slant
Wild willing ways
Spread succinct say
Crisp crafty cheer
Speaks sagely seer
Gift gracious glyph
Taste touching trip

Sagely silent woman half smiles
Man blathers on and on and on
Abject grief traveled many miles
Death has come to their precious son
Solemn church has six empty aisles
This brave soldier has long been gone
Sagely silent woman half smiles
Man blathers on and on and on
Dressed up child looks at dull gray tiles
Wishing she could blink and be gone
Outside window a gentle fawn
A teen's cell phone now butt dials
Sagely silent woman half smiles
