His obstinacy tenacious and noisy
He rebukes, he chides, he reprimands
His acts like a performer's repertoire
His renunciations to be jeered upon
He renounces, he chucks in, he relinquishes
It is the monologue man
The devil a master
at quoting scripture
suited to his purpose
Words conscripted most Divine
to dance
around his fire
Forked tongue in hand
he reprimands
with passages inflamed
To burn the lives
and damn the souls
— of those his farce conspires

Short Fuse
It’s not the way it works
when I go down
I go down hard
it hurts to hit the bottom
it reprimands me
I hear your voice
but
can hardly
make a choice
so please burn the poems
if they injure you
don’t be swept away
by fire that seared me
when I was young
wrecking golden days
driving me to write
in the
heat of
the
moment

Remember when the west was blessed safe from harms
Knew new secular psalms disarms with vernacular charms
Or calms any qualms or alarms with those boozy balms
Now USA commands AI lie farms and Mar a Lago palms
Blight of trite so called Christian right their call to arms
Islam’s Zakat demands that poor get alms in their palms
Forget regret silhouette Vietnam's reprimands napalms
Accessible rhyme is never good.
The penalty is understood—
soft titters from dark board rooms where
the businessmen paste on their hair
and, Colonel Klinks, defend the Muse
with reprimands of Dr. Seuss.
The best book of the age sold two,
or three, or four (but not to you),
strange copies of the ones before,
misreadings that delight the board.
They sit and clap; their revenues
fall trillions short of Mother Goose.
Put your faith in The Faithful
That you may expect Truth from the Truthful
For among men are resilient respondents
Who may crumble into dependent despondents

At least the umpire needn’t give

Today I watched the Open (French),
A famous match on clay.
The action kept me riveted
A good chunk of the day.
My favorite player did his part
To glue me to the screen
And won the title, making shots
Both powerful and clean.
Though life for some is normal now,
For me it’s still on hold
So show some tennis on TV
And surely, I’ll be sold.
