Rolled up yarnballs are
haybales stacked and stored.
 
Click-clacking needles echo
horses' hooves, hurried hush.
 
Summer unravels like a glitch
in the pattern, only to become

as wool loops interlock
the rapid growing fabric - swoosh
the pattern in punched blocks.

No knit one purl to rib a cuff
the endless counting past
but really I have had enough
the joy in craft is lost.

To set a pattern into its place

with no straws nor barricades...
cascades a tribute to the bygone lore
who's song once sung but now no more.

Therein I lie where the wind is low,
