   Dawn chirps a melody
     Birds of promise beckon me
   High-fliers inspire emulators
to flap our wings, become creators

   Ahead lies adventure
     sunlight, the perfect mentor
In my pinions, the day awaits
rise and shine, tempt the fates...

My crumpled wings
Quiver as pinions tremble
Bandaged by your balm
Brokenness shed to soar at dawn

Heavy Pinions
I feel like a rusty key
that cant open any door
You waylaid my cloudy kingdom
Your butter knife

astounded crows, blacker than charred

Numb with loss, no caws drone out.
Wind rushes in updrafts from
the smoky heat: to rise as a vengeful spirit,
to hammer at fleeing pinions,
to witness aimless circles above coal black trees,
now absent of rough stick nests.

How unlike is the glaring light?
How it enslaves and pinions
each stem with a fiery eye.

Love mesmerized
yearns for the dark coverlets,
the secrecy of eventides.

Those brief nocturnal shallows
can hide a sorrow,
make you smile like the last rays
of a dying sun....
