~ Moonlit caps shimmer,

                            crests spilling silver doubloons ...

                  Neptune's coffers, full. ~

I went to get a bit more done;
Did not intend to stay,
But once begun, turned to such fun,
I could not tear away.

Though some might fret at lots of sweat,
I find that I’m inure,
And though it flows whene’r I row,
I’m drawn to its allure.

When ev’ry inch is nearly drenched,
And there’s not far to go,
I’ll trade doubloons for macaroons
And bask in their sweet glow....

Hour Glass Treasure
Gather the crew and drain the lagoon There's a treasure at the bottom Gold, silver, pirate doubloons Ere nightfall we got em' Post light it's a curse Low on time here Be there first One mere Hour Glass Broken Was that all? Fragile treasure Chest of shards and sand This myth can’t be measured Not riches or diamonds grand Instead there was the gift of time Metaphors and empty hands remain

June
When the sun above is shining
On the sea, so bright and briney
And each day is a beach day
Where you’re nestled in the dunes
It’s June

When the sun above is blazing
On the beach on which you’re lazing
Seashells are all free shells
And sand dollars are doubloons
It’s June

When the sun above is gleaming
And you find yourself daydreaming
Concrete and chrome turn into seafoam
And your front lawn’s a lagoon
It’s June....

Reliquary
Retreating into my mind, I find,
Encased like glass, a history of my past, of
Lovers long ago, of bent and broken arrows.
Instant memories envelop me, like a familiar
Quilt, wrapping me into a mummy of guilt,
Unhappiness, pain. . . all feeling remains,
Are stored here, the bones of tears, to
Regret, resurrect, reflect, or entomb. I linger, having
Yet to exhume, the elusive, gold doubloons.
