Int'L Talk Like a Pirate Day
For us coastal dwellers of old B.C.,
Always 'Talk Like A Pirate Day' it be.
Tamperin' with the buoys, we be found,
A-plunderin' vessels what runs aground!...

Water Buoys Dreams
oceans surround mind
small or large to comprehend
water buoys dreams.

Sea Worthy
Once more
these achievements
milestones on your journey
anniversaries, like buoys
mark how far you've come- over life's ocean
through all kinds of weather, you have
safely held together
proven sea-worthy
once more...

Night
Tranquil
Starry sky
Embellished sheet
Nature buoys the mind
The eyes see through the veil
They journey on its highway
There's a sojourn through the meadow
Light permeates the gloomy chamber
The missing pieces sit on the table

Waikiki Wipeout
A surfer who suffered a fall
Found a float and for help he did call.
As the drama unfurls,
It seems that curls* will be curls,
And buoys will be buoys, after all.
*INCYDK (in case you didn't know): For all you non-surfer dudes and dudettes,
a "curl" is the curl or flip that forms as the top of a wave breaks.

The Maiden
Sultry summer night, black and calm,
quietness reigns except for soft lapping
where water caresses the buoys
waiting, waiting . . .
thick clouds break and drift.
Sudden light pulses on the ripples,
the moon quivering in the river-mirror,
shy of her reflection
like a maiden unaware of beauty.

Night Fishing
Wolves howl at the moon shining over the ridge
Golden light glancing off the silver steel girders,
Slithers of squiggly speckles ripple in the stream
After the trotline is suspended between buoys
The night fishermen play five-card stud poker,
And swap tall tales about their youthful follies.

Dear Friend
Dear friend, who buoys me up, though we have not met
except as poet friends by internet,
I hope one day to see your smiling face,
reach out and give to you my fond embrace.
Written 2/26/2020 as a thank-you verse
dedicated to all my dear friends; you know who you are!

Beef Flavored Ramen
barren
i pour life into your carcass
three minute companion
join me for an afternoon busied by the flusters of the world
endless noodle sucked through an indifferent orifice
brown abyss
what lies beneath the surface?
floating buoys aptly distract my visual analysis
yellow, orange, green
styrofoam smirk!
allow me to revel in your sweat
for my lack of toil...

Huge Silence
huge silence
There is a huge silence within each of us, beckoning us back into itself.
—attributed to Meister Eckhart
it’s always there
waiting to be noticed
the fathomless well
calling me inward
into the heart
of the heart
I swim down
deeper
find silence’s support
how it buoys
how it thirsts,
welcoming
those who remember—
held by the depth
thankful, I bow...

Grace, Like a Rooster
Grace, like a rooster,
crows all life.
Those who grab the booster
gain great heights.
It could boom like a bomb,
deafening;
whiff like soft wind,
leaving the ear unruffled.
Life's laced with grace
yet it eludes many;
but when braced,
one buoys to the shore
like a sea duck
atop unruly waves.

Rainquake
Rains for the third day
Non-stop. This road we travel
Is a cold panic.
A scattered glimmer
From far draws up as a ship,
Passes as a truck.
There is this rainbow
Of sorts. O! it’s a lonely
Woman in blue dress.
Deserts on the sides.
A mirage of inverted
Images, it’s like.
Life is what buoys up
As vision in the lava,
Chill, of this rainquake
Note: Five haikus make up this write....

Swifts Beach Memories
Buoys bounce up and down,
crashing waves make a sound
Seagulls fly away from here,
with your spirit staying near
Unmarked islands hold our secrets,
unknown memories lay beneath us
Tan marks and forgotten thoughts,
wanting to leave - I think not
Running streams and worn leaves,
pair less shoes near empty booze
Each one takes a slot,
making my breath simply stop
In pause, wanting to press rewind,
For now the sunset guides my mindless mind...

Back Against The Sea
Now and then the ocean is a blur
in footprints so quickly nothing, spurred
against that wild channeling —
God, she took my memory,
her baggy tides overrun,
seaweed returned in the surf, serendipitous stun,
How to follow you in your deep sea tomb —
Sometimes I breathe in water to breathe in you,
the gray ocean like a rod —
my prayers stopped time, God, God —
there floating within the sea fog's gloam,
the buoys, and a girl's cheeks that froze....

Feeling Golden
Unhooking my bikini, I fall in
to Utah Lake; it’s thirteen years ago!
I’m naked, and the sun - incarnadine -
like me, has also slipped itself down low,
(though into dusk), while, I -in water -glow!
My arms are freckle-speckled, lightly tanned.
Beneath my skin I’m feeling golden, and
my breasts are buoys, round and pearly white.
My legs kick strongly; they are lean and grand;
I’m sturdy - yes - but now I’m sweetly light!
