A dog named Bailey
Is a basset hound
She would eat all day
If it could be done
She always wants food
Her stomach is never full
At night when tired
Her bed is made up
In the laundry room
a gate to block the door
the whines to what seems
Like hours on end
Whines so loudly
That seems like hours
Only ten minutes
Until it all ends
Oh, Maggie-Jo Sparks, my basset hound
The best of the houndom breed
A friendlier pooch cannot be found
You are a grand ol' gal indeed!
Oh, oh Maggie-Jo you should be crowned

Janice's Basset Hound
This dog is so quiet
Bella never barkseats
With her big brown
eyes
She will stare at you
If you say a treat
She gets excited
Then eats it quickly
When she wants to
sit
Upon the love seat
She will stare at you
Till you notice her
Taping the cushion
She will quickly jump
Settle down -then nap
She is so content
Bailey is getting worse
Her illness is cancer
She is brought to the vet
We gather around the bed
Everyone pets Bailey
With tears being shed
Everyone says goodbye
While the vet doctor
Injects the final shot
A Basset Hound so sweet
She will be missed by love ones
Such a gentle dog and quiet
She was loved by all
A dog like her will be
Remembered always
So difficult to say good bye
Pups followed her home from this place and that.
She had bulldogs, basset hounds, and puppies so fat.
They followed her inside and lay down on her bed.
The mattress was cozy underneath each little head.
Her almost suiters were astounded to see the scene.
They said, “This is ridiculous!” One sounded quite mean.
You do not understand, she said. Here, I am the queen.
And my love for dogs and puppies is immensely keen.

bowling bewildered brother canine bedfellows,
befriending beagles,
basking beside bashful basset hounds,
belabors begging beef at table,
bedazzled by butterflies,
bobblehead bouncy Beau,
basically befuddled,
becalmed by bedtime biscuit,
beloved baffling beastie!
me and my spaghetti sandwich
watching you plant flowers grown by your tears
me and my four cheese garlic bread
watching you climb a tree inspired by an untold loss
me and my brown sugar bacon baked beans
watching you listen to your basset hound howl at the silent siren of your blues
me and my butterscotch dipped cone
watching you walk slowly over to where i am to use my shoulder as your memory foam comfort pillow
you and i and our rare occasion settlement etched in temporary stillness
