Mind Engaged and Caged
Ode to Maya Angelou

My mind often may be engaged;
When I found out it was caged,
Time devote;
Poems wrote;
I became furious and enraged.

For Maya Angelou
For Dr Maya Angelou

Vanquished by the day one may be,
Beaten down by the barren night.

Faltering at times,
at times upright.

Still one stands.
One still fights.

For though one falls,
One must rise....

Comatose
Comatose: inspired by Insomniac by Maya Angelou, for Joann’s Copycat contest

There are some morns when
Sleep conquers,
Heavy and masterful.
And all the tricks
That I groggily try
To shake it from my head
Are futile as raising the dead,
And much less hopeful....

Maya
Truthful, enthusiastic, prolific, kind
People will never forget how she made us feel
If you do not like something, she said, change it.
An American poet, singer, poetess
She published seven autobiographies
Pouring her pain out to help others.
Helping us to do the same

Nothing can dim the light that shines from within. ~Maya Angelou

You are perfect
in all of your imperfections.

What imperfections?
I ask.

Exactly!
He responds.

it was not true love
the only true love is God
and Christ on the cross
bearing the imperfections
so light can shine out from me

Maya and Martin To Their End and More
May be Maya Angelou or Martin Luther King,
Who with some marvelous story will bring,
Lifelong friend,
To their end;
To us all, they meant more than anything.

Jim Horn

That sure has been quick response;
From someone would not absconce;
Always prepared;
Never scared;
On another poem start and pounce.

The Poets Pluck
THE POETS PLUCK Maya Angelou

ON THE PULSE OF MORNING
a new dawn will arise, hungry baby cries
STILL I RISE
dry baby's eyes

PASSING TIME
WHEN YOU COME HOME
off to work I'll tread
INSOMNIAC, half dead, I moan

prayed TO BE TOUCHED BY AN ANGEL
I KNOW WHY THE CAGED BIRD SINGS
a MOMMA WELFARE ROLL
No medicine for baby, and no baby swings

Good Morning
Last night
You were my Ray Charles song
My Maya Angelou Poem...
Didn't we experience forever
during that moment
you brought my soul home?

Bob Marley plays on Pandora
in that long episode
to be continued
my mind was blowed...

I liked it best when we danced slow.
There are some things that will last forever
Like that memory

I will never let it go....

Maya Angelou proclaiming
She knows why the caged bird sings
While a raven Says forevermore
Brings to mind Edgar Allan Poe

Sir Walter Raleigh did inspire
with his poem "Like truthless dreams my Joys expire"
Emily Dickenson gave us many wonderful verses
"Apparently with no surprise" being among the first

For sonnets with poetic flair
None can compare
To the great William Shakespeare...

I Respectfully Decline
To be what you think I should be
Your definition of poetry
I’m sorry
But I respectfully decline

Write like Shakespeare, Frost or Angelou
Emulate what all other poets do
I’m sorry
But I respectfully decline

Copy, pretend or try to be
Anything other than Kimberly
I’m sorry
But I respectfully decline

Live my life by what others say
Change any part of me today
I’m sorry
But I respectfully decline...

Stark Fiction
I know why the caged bird sings,
and why our phone always rings,
because of you.

I know why the sea is blue,
because it hasn't found anyone new.

I need shelter from the storm.
I wish it was warm.

I know why the sky turns black,
because it's never looked back.

Why do you always sit on the porch,
looking like a clockwork orange.

Dedicated To Maya Angelou.

Maya Angelou
Mind full of wisdom, strength, hope and encouragement
Always gave inspirational talks and speeches
Yielding a transformed generation
And we shall forever treasure her contribution

A poet, actress, author, dancer, and singer
Never gave up on her dreams and ambitions
Getting through with her desire and aspire
Eternity In heaven
Like all others who left a mark on this earth
Oh God grant her
Ultimately for a life well lived...

Premium Member Thankful For Accurate History and Maya Angelou
May we be blessed to acknowledge all the wonders in our life
that have, for us, thus far accrued…
and to begin each day with a word of thanks…
and thoughts of gratitude.

Today I’m thankful for history…
when it’s an honest unobstructed view
and for the poetry and wisdom
of Maya Angelou

Who hoped for the day…
as I do
when we are blessed to see
Native American
and black history
taught from one book…
An honest and accurate book on U. S. history....

Ocean
Your words of pain
No more in my vein

Your crazy acts
Are forgotten facts

For one day you know
In a lovely snow

In a silk soft hue
You said me I love you

In your warm emotion
I met an ocean

To Maya Angelou
The first time I saw you
I was a child watching Roots.
No knowledge of the poetry
or autobiography pursuits.

The first poem I heard by you
was "And Still I Rise'.
As a young adult in search of
purpose it came as no surprise.

With every interview, book,
and poem I could take in.
In an odd and distant way,
you became teacher and friend.

Several chances I had to meet you,
but I was always too afraid.
Because of you and some others too
My love for poetry will never be swayed....
