Romantic abeyance
evokes such strong emotion
that leaves one flooded
and renders the heart motionless.
The heart is a lonely hunter,
nagging and urging my body,
then leaves a constantly fixed mark -
perhaps emptiness…
Marooning my softly mourning mind,
with divine appointment:
a velvet-smooth caress
absolves my fearless affection.
guilt doesn't weigh you down it seems
from the love songs we didn't sing
at night you sleep a reverent sleep
miles away, I toss and don't dream
you warmed yourself next to my fire
passion burning hotter and higher
every minute of every sweet hour
I thought that it would never expire
all of these things that I forgive
from the start when you drew me in
Grace absolves you from all sin
the songs I keep and hold within
It is a plasmid wraith of thickened odors,
its organs, the sticky slops
of dead-end days.
It hungers for discarded dregs,
the dispensed with and disposed of
are its haunt,
scraps of yesterday trail behind it
as grey tentacles no longer able
to feel.
Soon the trashmen will
ambush the bins,
heave them into a reeking wagon,
yet it will return tomorrow
smelling worse,
for nothing absolves us
from its un-recyclable curse.
I have never felt more betrayed
Than when you lied to me
Never was I more dismayed
Than when I cut you free.
Love I sought, and not with guarantee
I never wanted this disaster
Then your flotsam and debris
Stole precious days of laughter.
No more happily ever after
I do truly understand
What is a complicated answer
I know our woe you never really planned.
I bid you a sad and firm adieu
But love absolves. I forgive you.
As the dreamers overtake me
As the sunshine still forsakes me
As the rain above awakes me
To another windy night
As the dark hollows enslave me
As the tired thoughts invade me
As the swinging watch persuades me
I am losing every fight
As the ticking clock absolves me
As the falling sky dissolves me
As the twisting moon revolves me
My body of sores and knots
As the raining swords impale me
As my eyes begin to fail me
As the shining worlds avail me
The light begins to rot
