The Death of August Derleth: July 4, 1971
The summer air hangs still.
Hawk and whippoorwill
Wing mournful down the graying skies…
Hearken to their cries!

And then the faintest breeze
Murmurs in the trees…
And at the Lonesome Place
Spirits sigh in space....

Yesterday, May 27, Sir Henry Kissinger turned one-hundred
It's now been forty-six years since he held public office

His astute, 'realpolitik' analysis is as bold as ever
He opened up China (1971) ~ yet the man is cautious!...

A Seven-Year Love
Wanting you,
knowing I couldn’t have you
I called the devil my friend
as he surrendered the key
The lock to your heart reopening,
the hourglass turned over
In the flames of December
—running back to you

Thrown Overboard, by a Boom not tied

"Dark Shadow's" Barnabas Collins,
Was guilty of vampire maulin's.
He was cursed by jealous witch, Angelique,
A cure for vampirism he did seek.

The Death of August Derleth (2) (1909-1971)
Wisconsin winds are chill:
Hawk and whippoorwill
Are mourning in the skies
When their poet dies.

And at the Lonesome Place
Spirits fill the space
With whispers on the breeze
Billowing the trees.

Wisconsin winds will blow
Summers into snow,
But winds of Fame will sing
Evening in Spring....

If the callous fingers of stolid silence could but stir me
To rise with the bright radiant ever-changing flight of moon
And await new birth of sea fairies dancing to Neptune's wake
Wherein the majestic blue sea cries out mightily to flee.

Kindling's Fire
She made me more real than I could stand,
but choice was not an option
And reaching in deep she pulled tomorrow
out of yesterday’s regret
Leaving me to find a home for all the
wasted memories and time
Loving me only just enough
—to begin to start again

"my Pine Tree"
(My very first poem)

I used to hide
In my pine tree
I could feel safe and big
Sitting in my monkey fort.

Now I can't
They say I'm too old
Instead I sit in the cafeteria
Eating my bananas.

Comment On Decency And Morality

This ole earth sets its unholy record
as sin is so often celebrated
The bad walk with chins and chest puffed out
streets danger from the inebriated.

Almost right is great

Everywhere I Go
God is with me everyday, he's with me everywhere I go.
If people wonder if he will abandon me, the answer is no.
God is with me when I'm at my house, at the lake and even at Walmart.
Everywhere I go, I carry God in my heart.
God has been with me since I was born in August of 1971.
I thank the Lord for all of the good things that he has done....

Will one write an Ogden Nash?
A touch o' wink, bit a blink
And then, add a glint o' guile...
Doing all, with wryest smile.

Or could it come out "Mish-Nashed"?
Since Nash, he himself, had mashed
His isms into witticisms
Leaving most in a mad dash -

I could not wait to stop wearing maternity clothes.
I had been pregnant for 9 months I 1971
and then for another 9 months in 1973.
You can hardly imagine how irritating it was
to see the newest fashions for women in 1974
looked like maternity tops!
That is all they sold in the stores.
The exact kind of smock I had been stuck in
for eighteen months!...

Selena
(Dedicated to Selena Quintanilla Perez who died March 31, 1995.)

You were murdered in cold blood in 1995.
While you lived, your music career thrived.
It was sad because you died at the age of twenty-three.
We were both born in 1971, you were the same age as me.
When you died, the music industry lost a great star.
Now you're singing for God because Heaven is where you are....

God Is My Best Friend
God became my best friend when I was born in 1971.
God wants all of us to have joy and to have fun.
I don't go to church but my love for God is true.
He's my best friend and he's your best friend too.
Don't give up even when things look grim.
God is there to help us; just look to him.
I know for a fact that God loves me and he loves you.
Having him for a best friend is the best thing to do....

You Deserved Better
YOU DESERVED BETTER

You’ve given me everything you could
And I haven’t always responded as I should
You deserved to have a better son than me
That’s plain enough for me to see
Mum, I haven’t always behaved like a perfect son
But I think now I’ve finished all the work that you’ve begun.
