I change my friends the way others change their clothes.
Adding one sweater every tenth year or so.
I am in touch with two childhood friends I have enjoyed since grade school.
We cannot discuss politics or religion because we love each other
And we do not want that to change.
When we meet in person we turn into ten-year-olds even though
We have known each other since we were eight.
We still giggle about the dumbest things ever.
We are bonded for life because we know
So much about each other, confiding things
We could tell no one else. Trust cements us
Now and forever. We have a non-severable bond.
I call it childhood in a small town.
