If it were up to me, if the world would smile kindly upon me

If it were up to me, if the world would smile kindly upon me,
I would retreat to the land where silence embraces the earth,
where the tumult in my heart would become a gentle beat,
and my mind would learn peace through the gaze of calm and serene life,
my feet would caress the tall grass with measured and gentle steps,
and I would befriend the echo of my voice, bringing back good tidings from my soul,
time would bless my joy, running at a constant rhythm,
multiplying my wealth and the lost love for life would sprout again,
resting beside the green of the vegetables I would carefully cultivate,
I would bathe in silence, wearing the whispers of the field like a cloak,
and I would hold my breath at the beauty that reveals itself every morning,
only to release it at night, before sipping a warm and soothing tea.
If it were up to me, if the world would smile kindly upon me,
I might choose the city as a tower of observation over the world,
where the glow of streetlights would burn softly in the deep night,
and the hum of traffic would harmonize with the voices in my mind,
I would learn the cunning of success, fishing for fleeting opportunities,
proving that I belong to that bustling and ever-moving world,
I would wander the crowded streets, swimming through hurried crowds,
always searching elsewhere, anywhere but where I am now,
I would roam the city at odd hours, until I find myself alone,
and each day would be a victory of survival, rewarded with a coffee to-go.
If it were up to me, if the world would smile kindly upon me,
in both parallel dreamed universes, I would have you,
the solace in silence, the constant in the storm, my beacon in the night.
