The Early Teenage Years

4. THE EARLY TEENAGE YEARS
They say I’m now an adolescent because I’ve reached the teenage years
New school, new friends, new teachers, a whole new set of fears
I was supposed to wear my glasses, when attending my new school
That wasn’t going to happen, I thought they made me look uncool

I had to wear a uniform to attend the school each day
There was a jacket, hat and jumper, an insipid shade of grey
I wore the hat just once, then resigned it to the bin
To have to wear such head gear, was deemed a mortal sin

I made a friend named Sylvia, but I just called her Syl
I’d meet her after school each day, to hang around and chill
We’d discuss what boy we fancied, on whom we had a crush
And if they ever noticed us, it gave us such a rush

We loved messing round with make-up, trying to make ourselves look cool
We’d end up looking like a circus clown, an over painted fool
So then we started smoking, trying to look so hip and slick
Never knowing that this habit, could give us cancer, make us sick

Our friendship lasted all through school, with good times and some bad
And when it came to leaving, we felt down and really sad
We did not have an inkling what the future had in store
The only certain facts we knew that school days were no more.
