The Scourging at the Pillar

Betrayed and arrested, the verdict is death.
Pilate tried to resist but gave in.
As surely as life ends without any breath,
So, we now see the wages of sin.
Beaten and scourged now, He stood before all
Pilate gave up the urge to set free
And convicted the King and the Savior of all
To a death of great agony.

Now we see the extent and the breadth of God’s plan.
So marred His appearance beyond that of man.
Behold now the Man, before Him now kneel,
By His wounds are we healed. By His wounds are we healed.

Pilate asked about truth though before him Truth stood.
And he turned away, washing his hands.
But the guilt is still there, cleansing did him no good,
And it’s sad that he can’t understand.
Appeasing the crowds and appeasing his fear
Was the only thing he thought to do.
A warning unheeded from one he held dear
Just because he could not see what’s true.

Now we see the extent and the breadth of God’s plan.
So marred His appearance beyond that of man.
Behold now the Man, before Him now kneel,
By His wounds are we healed. By His wounds are we healed.

Foretold by the prophet long ages ago
For our sins our God suffered and died.
From wounds we inflicted His holy Blood flows
And to our wounds that Blood is applied.
Like a lost little sheep we have all gone astray
But He freely took on all our guilt.
As He stands now before us do we look away?
Do we see now what our sin has built?

Now we see the extent and the breadth of God’s plan.
So marred His appearance beyond that of man.
Behold now the Man, before Him now kneel,
By His wounds are we healed. By His wounds are we healed.
