Halcyon Days

HALCYON DAYS

Seeing the past through rose coloured glasses
And memories with a tinge of happier times
Was it always the case that the past was nice
And never subject to the cold of frost or ice
I’m sure all prefer when temperature climbs
As sun is revealed when a dark cloud passes

Those halcyon days were probably tainted
By challenges that brought the mood down
Every artwork hides a mistaken brushstroke
Forgetting when that emotional dam broke
Yet not every occurrence deserves a frown
As happiness emerges in a finished painting

Might one really want to relive those days
Yes, there were good times and pleasure
But finding joy in one’s current existence
It is preferable to good times at a distance
There’s no comparison, by any measure
Enjoy the present, the past a mere phase
