INFERNAL COMBUSTION

We plan to burn more fossil fuel,
thinking that nature we can fool.
We know the planet is warming
but still we ignore the warning.

Tons of damaging dioxide
we vent into the blue to hide.
Sadly, no lessons do we learn
as primal carbon we still burn.

The oceans now soak up the heat
and more quickly evaporate.
Grey cumulus hang here again.
More than ever it pours with rain.

Perhaps just go on regardless
and turn blind eye to our own mess.
We thought we had mastered nature.
But are we now not quite so sure?

Can our wise leaders show the way?
Perhaps on this we hope and pray.
But are some there for selfish gain
to profit from the power game?
