Heart Gentle, Eye Mindful

   	        Heart Gentle, Eye Mindful

College journalism students were challenged with their first
on-the-street assignment: Ask a cross-section of the people
in your town, “When you hear the word ‘gifted,’ what comes
to your mind?”

Imagine the wide variety of responses! The experience was
especially gratifying for those who received answers like these:

“The people I truly KNOW who have made the greatest
difference in others’ lives, including mine, are gifted in the
art of making others happy. They are unselfish and caring.”

“The most gifted people I know possess the ability to earn
others’ trust. They know how to put others at ease, enabling
them to open up when they most need to~~knowing they won’t
be repeated.”

“The truly gifted people I know look you in the eye and
say, ‘How are you?’ because they actually want to know~~
not just because they have to say SOMEthing. They will take
time to listen. Kindness and patience come naturally to them.”

“I know people who pray for others, but they don’t stop there;
they put feet on their prayers when actions are needed. They are
gifted in knowing how to help without embarrassing others or
bringing attention, praise, to themselves.”

Students who received answers like those above are looking forward
to their next assignment.
