INDIVIDUATION
The in-between heat of August is there
And here
For those of you who dare
To embrace the early signs of magic
Katydids clacking at dusk
To the moon’s silver fingers
Parting the leaves
Cicadas rattling like tambourines
I come across an eagle feather
Long black and brown
Wonder if it actually fell from a vulture
Either way I am protected
From what?
Yesterday and tomorrow
In the morning
A Luna Moth did not time the sunrise
Correctly
Hides herself out in the open as an Oak leaf
Stuck to the sunlit bark
Eyes from her lime wings
Stare out
No mouth to shout
And with no stomach
She cannot conceive of hunger or thirst
It is love that sustains
Her
Needs
Love love love
Cinderella with her slipper left for the Prince
Of darkness
To leave three hundred eggs wrapped in a leaf
For the cocoon of moon in the following spring
Love
Her wand of a tail
Tattered
By a night-before battle with a bat
What is left to do when all is accomplished?
But to rest
To translate biology to poetry
To remain solitary
To realize the world cannot understand
If not
Outright resists
This
Transformation
From living being to unseen spirit
She makes it through the day
Then lifts her wings
Into a purple legion of darkness
Disappears.
