Many folks are potchkeing*
In preparation for
Thanksgiving Day tomorrow
And the feast that is in store.
Soups and stuffing, pies and cakes,
Turkey, veggies, yams;
Mashed potatoes, corn bread,
Sauce of cranberries and hams.
Some make everything from scratch,
Others order in
Or use some combination;
Still, the diners score a win.
Kith and kin will gather;
There’ll be football on T.V.
Americans will party
With a stuff-your-faces spree.
*A Yiddish word for fussing or bothering,
pronounced “potch-key-ing.”
