Premium Member A Samurai Sandwich Please

“A Samurai sandwich please.”
The waitress looked perplexed but took the order anyway
because she did not want to ask.
“Perfect!” the customer said.

Three more times that month he came in for a
sandpiper sandwich, a taffeta sandwich, and a typhoon sandwich.
The waitress brought him the sandwich of the day all three times.
“Exactly what I wanted!” he said.

They began dating the next month, and swiftly fell in love.
“I knew I’d never find another man this easy to please,” she told her
bridesmaids. “So I decided to marry him.”

“I didn’t care what she brought me,” he told his groomsmen. “As long
as it was her that brought it.”

At the Altar of Eros

Before the Light of the Sun and the stars began to shine,
Dwelled the Winged Chaos, in pitch as darkened as red wine,
His companions were Nyx the Night, Erebus the Darkness,
And Tartarus the Abyss, the dungeon for wickedness.
Soon Night with black wings opened, laid a sterile egg inside,
The bosom of Darkness which existed far and wide.
From this strange egg came the beautiful Eros God of Love.
Who bore the Human race the first to see the light above.
Robert paced his room trying to summon enough courage,
To go to the dance, and ask for Leah’s hand in marriage.
He had loved Leah from first sight but had hardly spoken.
Tonight he felt that his lonely heart would rise unbroken.
Leah wore a pink taffeta ball gown and looked divine,
She flirted with all the boys with conversations benign,
As Robert come close to her she giggled and ignored him,
Robert took a deep breath and said “This is not just a whim,
But will you make me the happiest man and marry me?”
People in the hall erupted with laughter at his plea.
The crazy, loudest laugh came from Leah herself sadly,
And Robert ran from the hall into the wild storm madly.
In the darkness he walked lost and alone down the highway,
Eros with sun golden wings appeared at the break of day.
Please come with me my son and I will put your heart to rest,
The darkness came in and covered everything heaven blessed.

An allegedly assured affix
distracted by wistfulness
to assess arousal of anguish,
wherewithal shadows tackle by day
amidst thick mist, in propinquity dry wells.

carrying a titian heartbreak on my shoulder.
a gentle regret that is not a zenith dread;
brocade as taffeta, a bluesy lullaby.
spun from gentle yarns; weaved.

Striving to scale a sibilant soil surface
toward porous roots of sequoia
trapped by the force of gravity.
allow only tangerine tears to flow
from my sorrow.

Getting into the quagmire.
in quest of one's fortitude.
whilst waiting for syzygy perigee,
to occur on perihelion.

Premium Member A Christmas Fantasy

Walking alone on that Christmas day
through falling snow, in emotions sublime,
step, pause step, she danced a minuet
as her taffeta skirt swirled in three quarter time.

The oboes and flutes sang sweet rhymes,
while in her mind the orchestra played,
through sparkling emeralds, the forest came alive,
as in her eyes the evergreens swayed.

She watched the flakes fall slow through the trees,
like courtesan guests, they bowed unconcerned.
Then slowly they gathered hugging her feet,
where, with courteous smile, their bows she returned.

With outstretched arms and yawning breath
through hiddenite eyes it would seem,
the music she heard was from a box neath the tree
and her dance was but a lovely sweet dream.

Premium Member This Is Mortality

In a small coffin made of styrofoam
and lined with lace and taffeta of blue,
I gently lay him down, there all alone,
this dreadful day...with whisper bid adieu.
     In death's tranquility...
     gone for eternity...
     this is mortality.
                            My fragile heart
        shattered apart...
          sad tears restart.
For twenty years his gold-green eyes had shone,
and now are closed, no longer in my view.
His soft meows, now silenced endlessly.
                            In pain...I part.

Corsage

The toy box made of plywood painted white
my grandfather built for me when I was three
has become a time machine
a tool of torture
Why haven’t I burned its contents to ash
as I did all his letters full of lies?
Within I find notebooks in which I penned
my pubescent musings that seem so silly now
First attempts at poetry
that sound trite today when read
with a much more mature tongue
that has tasted the bitter brew of experience
Scribbled quotations from history’s finest minds
Sketches of dresses I designed
A crumbling corsage of carnations
still sealed inside its plastic shell
for the last twenty five years
that he pinned to my pink Victorian taffeta gown
I can close my eyes and recall
its fresh flowery scent
feel the silky petals under my fingertips
the gentle cool early autumn breeze
blowing over the river on my young supple skin
that single night of my life
when every star in the sky
seemed to be shining solely for me
I had hope then

Miss Tawny Evermore

~

Dressed in almond taffeta,
a salted evening throw
With satin slipper grenadine,
where crystal glasses flow

I dreamt of Tawny Evermore,
her hair a fired flame
And songs now sung and played for her,
shall never be the same

Her cape of velvet after sheen,
upon a braided stair
Past portraits painted long ago,
by artists everywhere

Along a paisley corridor,
its walls adorned in gold
Another haven brings its scene,
as moments do unfold

Upon the sill, a vase it sits,
chrysanthemums in bloom
Their fragrance sends a subtle hint,
about the waiting room

When there within the vestibule,
his hair a darkened weave
With pearly whites so blinding that,
the night could never leave

His name Lord Count de Bullvereen,
the second in a line
So called to pass up brandy for
a large carafe of wine

Reflections of a shining soul
alone for one to choose
Unlike the mirror image found
the polish of his shoes

When down the stair, she did ascend,
perfection in her grace
Such beauty, he had never seen,
euphoric was her face

He took her hand, and with a bow
so gently left a kiss
Upon his own left pinkie for,
on hers he came to miss

She chuckled quite a quiet laugh,
though everyone could hear
As well, the footman with a smile
now standing very near

The count, he turned a shade of red,
as anger soon was spawn
Then grabbed his hat and walking stick,
abruptly he was gone

The footman and Miss Evermore
then grinned and with a shrug
Snuck off into another room
where they then shared a hug

It seems these two were something real,
though silent due to class
But that's okay, their fun was had,
each day that came to pass

He told her this, between a kiss
that her, he did adore
And like her name, Miss Tawny, he
would love her "Evermore"

And one more thing, before I go
that maybe you can't see
The footman, quite the handsome bloke,
the truth is, he is me

Premium Member The Shedding Trees of Autumn

I've heard your whispers
in quiet moments
amongst the shedding trees of Autumn..

I walk alone our wooded path – listening
the air just as crisp as a bright-blushed Winesap
but my tears not as sweet – glistening

the wispy whispers haunting
taunting in their gentle tug
and I wonder; how easily the golden leaves let go..
with barely a breath of wind’s soft persuasion
they fall away from boughs
each descending like a fated swan
gliding circling fluttering to their end with a taffeta crinkle -
the crinkle reminiscent of a shy fire’s crackle
as they settle and nestle on the forest floor

I remember how we settled and nestled
on the rug before the fire’s supple tongues
home-made hard cider filled our mugs
made from untamed fruits
of wild trees
our flame untamed and wild too
when we were ginger-kissed
and the taste of your lips saturated mine
besotted with our nectar-like love
till satisfied cinders in the hearth serenely died..

I walk alone now with falling leaves
was it Fall who taught you how to let go so gracefully
while October’s wind trembled aspens like harp strings..?

I hear a thousand golden whispers of love
amongst the shedding trees of Autumn.

*Winesap: an American heirloom apple that ripens in October with a bright/dark red skin, a crisp texture, is aromatic and has a sweet-tart taste. Winesaps get their name due to their distinctive spicy wine-like flavor. Great for hard cider!

Premium Member Stairway To the Stars

Stars like stalactites, suspended in a sapphire sky
Tremble on a satin tapestry
As I ascend, awe-struck,
Into their icy incandescent light.
Resplendence enwraps me as I
Wend my way through a white-hot
Astral arc,
Yearning for something just beyond my grasp. . . .

Treasures await me.
Of that I am sure.

Tails of argent comets swiftly pass me as I climb new
Heavenly heights in hushed
Expectation.

Surging past the shimmering rings of Saturn, I see in the distance a
Throne of gold set in a taffeta tableau; the stars behind me now
Appear as small glowing asterisks.
Reaching transcendence, I
Sparkle.

The Blue Dress

It was my twentyfifth wedding anniversary, I wanted to look beautiful
after twenty five years of wedding bliss two kids and a life of plentiful
I wanted to give thanks to God for bringing me a man whos love goal
was to adore me in wholeness, individuality, and passionate affection;

At the age of forty four I was in the prime of my life working and living
I loved life with all my heart and God was the center point of my loving
then suddenly without notice I found a lump in my breast and I froze
everything paced in slow motion as I waited for test results to return

In the meantime I had a party to attend to so I wrote out the guest list
and went to buy the most beautiful dress, and a corsage for my wrist
the dress was made of taffeta, thin strapped and wide in princess style
all the while I waited by the phone for that call that would say your fine

Time became of essence as I waited for an answer to my health issue
I asked God to spare my life for sake of my kids, as I cried in a tissue
The phone call arrived and the sun returned in my life, "it was benign"
I extoled life in a banquet hall surround by family as I danced all night

in my beautiful blue taffeta, giving thanks for my life to God above,
No matter what happens in life I now know, I'll always need His LOVE*
