Heavy eyelids
Drooping daze;
Blur fatigue

Hot weather
Sleepy eyes punctuate;
Somnolence

Well-fed bout
Too much food;
Sleepy convulsions

Eyelids heavy
Drowsy excursions;
Dreamy ESP

Chatter in slow motion
Awareness in decline;
Afternoon nap

Rapid express
Snoring sensations;
Roomy context

One by one
Figures tumble;
Sleepy exposure

Painful waiting time
Dental appointment;
Fatal extraction!

So many things
Left unsaid;
Good conversation

Drowsy listening
After lunch break;
Learners half asleep

Crowded space
Edgy moods prowl;
Silent rage sparks

Extra dry drought
Wild fires burn;
Smoke and ashes

Take a walk
Make some small talk;
Stiff indifference

Crowded street
Lonely faces;
Anxiety engineers

Busy footsteps
Crowded mall;
Noise pollution

Brief glance
Beauty meets beast;
Bar stool permutation

By crowded footpath
Old cripple cries:
Help me, buy tissues!

Day time escapades
Sunday morning jog;
People street hog

The Open Road

Packing up - grooving -
Getting ready to go on a trip to Arizona...packing up extra
The car is moving and we are doing our thing
I'm sitting in the back of the caravan, waiting for mama

Waiting patiently - improving -
Getting ready to go on a trip to Arizona...driving in awe
The car bumps and the ride is smoothing
I'm sitting here without a trace of fear, mesmerized by what I saw

There's a bump in the road
And I need your abode
There's a bump in the road
And I need to sing this ode

We are driving down the open road
We are driving into His lovely abode
The open road to Arizona is where we are going...God is all-knowing
The wind is blowing and the sun is glowing...my sunlit smile is showing

But, for now, it is gloomy...
For now, the car is somewhat roomy
I'm sitting down with blankets on my lap
And with a dog staring at me in the background without a care
We are leaving soon...maybe in a snap!
And we move along with some commotion and sound here and there

Happiness and gladness is along the open road
I've been told that the princess kissed the toad
Hopefulness and mindfulness is along the open road
Joyfully, we are singing our road ode...our road ode!

The ground is shaking
Below my feet and bottom
The sun is awakening,
Shaking off the feelings of numb

You're driving me crazy on the open road
I'm discovering your awesome, mysterious code
Moving on along the road to paradise
But, paradise has its expensive price

However, the open road is free with freedom
We are awaiting God's glorious, gracious Kingdom

You move me in ways
and you are not even here,
not present in my space,
but in the periphery of my room,
my room of hopes and dreams,
my roomy room of expectations.
Compelled I turn my head,
ever so slowly, ever so slightly and,
acknowledge you, the essence of you
with a sensual sweet smile...
your aura, your energy, electrifying.
I sense you sensing me,
a mutual sensual mystery, and,
in your own roomy space there,
moved by carnal desire... our yearning,
hungry lips part expelling heat, warmth,
simultaneously knowing a midnight rendezvous of
the heart soul and body occurred in our rooms, apart.

Purpose plays pun
Arc aids alarm
Now nothing numbs

Odd old outreach
Rich rustic raid
Aid arms afraid

Churn charming cheer
Honour host here
Attend aware
Restore ride rare
Apply and aid
Desire drops dead

Health heaps honey

Heavy hearts hoist
Appoint apt art
Roomy retard
Mull million makes
Suffer sweep stakes

Nowhere near now
Aid and avow
Indulge ingrate
Verse voice vibrates
Embrace endow

Mind moves matter
Ask apt answer
Now not never
Keep knocking kind
Itch inks incline
Note nice niche near
Dance doubting dear

Healing hurts here
Explore extend
Real roasting rears
Encroach expanse

(Note: This is an Acrostic poem with Alliteration.)

A Chapel Speaks of God within her Shadows

I know you see me from up there,
from halfway up the steep and twisting lane.
In early half-light as you take your walk
I no doubt seem to loom as you descend,
appear to grow, to rise from earth,
my boxlike rectilinearity,
severe and unadorned geometry,
a silhouette against the solitary sodium source.

I once hosted fiery-throated hymns
from dedicated souls in Sunday best:
“Marchog, Jesu, yn llwyddiannus”,
“O! Iesu mawr, rho d’anian bur” –
voices rich and raised and resonant,
so filled with faith, so gorged with God.
My pitch-pine pews were polished
by coat and skirt and trouser twill.

Abandoned now, unloved, slab-still,
void and stark and desolate,
with quarry-tiled floor that would resound
with joy were anyone to walk upon it,
I present gaping emptiness, a thing felt,
a cave whose darkness, palpable,
is peopled by retreating echoes of my past,
like timorous ghosts far too afraid to speak.

But there is One I must not name –
though He might be known by
the four letters of the tetragrammaton –
who lodges in my roomy quarters,
cowers within my tight square corners,
seeking shadows when the sun stares in.
I hear Him breathing as
He sweats in His remorse, a thing smelt.

He hides from the accusing eyes of every nation,
the eyes that witness daily His forlorn creation.

(The chapel speaking here is in a small place in West Wales, UK)

(Translations: “Marchog, Jesu, yn llwyddiannus” = "Ride on Jesu, all victorious"; “O! Iesu mawr, rho d’anian bur” = "O Jesu, let Thy spirit bless")

The Wrong Uniform

The Uniform

I have a framed photo on my desk of three little boys
dressed in oversized German uniforms doing a nazi salute
A black, square box- camera, a picture was taken
in 1946. I was eight years old.
My uniform jacket reached below my knees like an over
an overcoat was roomy and warm and shielded me from
the cold westerly wind that blew over the flat landscape
and trees stood permanently bent as elderly people are
I was allowed to keep the/jacket coat and happily walked home
The war (as wars go) had been a mild one; we didn’t know
that millions of people had died under much suffering
in the name of a “Hail Hitler.”
At home, my mother refused to sew natural buttons on my coat
and rejected me wearing it outside, but she didn’t mind
if I wore it inside, as it was warm and we had little coal for
heating when the weather was cold.
The grownups make a child’s world difficult so, many things
are forbidden, don’t do this, don’t do that, an endless warning
against what was daring; I wore my coat till it shrunk and
became a jacket and too tight around my shoulders.

Cryptic contours charade,
Rousing riverfront raid;
Young yonder years yielding,
Prosperous peace prancing;
Taunting tale telling trite,
Icon imprints invite,
Clever casting charm cites...

Minds merge mingling motives,
Embalm emergent edge;
Rising riches restive,
Lofty lion-maned ledge;
Instruct inbound inklings,
Outline obvious oozing,
Niche nice new nurturing...

Fancy fish-tail flings flair,
Age aligns apt affairs;
Sense survival seeking,
Hope's hasty hurts hurling;
Intent invents impasse,
Observe optimum ooze;
Now nimble nascent noose,
Salty sea spray surpass...

Sculpt seaward sea-bubble:
Taut tensile tendency,
Obscure odd odyssey,
Raise roomy revelry;
Years yield yarns you yodel...

See sensuous story stay,
Charm cleverly cheers clay;
Raise rousing ripe refrains,
Indulge instincts ingrained;
Prime plot puzzling playground,
Trailblazer touching town...

Move myopic mindset,
Yesterday yielding yet;
Tease trouble's trying threats,
Hoist happy hustling hat...
