Midnight Tricks

Tip toe tip toe
[[creaaaaak]]
tip toe tip toe
little white ankle socks slide up brown wooden stairs
one...two...three...four....five....six....seven...eight...nine...ten...eleven...twelve...
one set of stairs down
tip toe tip toe
light gray sweatpants sweep the floor
tip toe tip toe
!!OW!!
she stubs her foot in the dark
tip toe tip toe
only a few more stairs left to go
the light from the moon shines through the window in the door
tip toe tip toe
a big Steelers football jersey covers her
black and gold
tip toe tip toe
last step to go
-sliiiiiideeee across the floor
a hand with light pink nails reaches out
sliding across the pale white wall
fingers find a light switch
((click))
blue green eyes peer around the room
wide eyed like an owl (0,0)
the coast is clear
socks -sliiiiiiiiiideeeee across the tiles
little black lines dissecting the white
[craack]
the freezer door pulls open
{{{{{brrrrrr}}}}}
the cold air sweeps over her
her hands search the shelves numbly
.......Finally!!
the treasure she's been looking for
!!chocolate chip ice cream!!
she sets the white and black tub on the white counter
pulls the brand new lid off
[[creeeeak]]
pulls open a draw
--sliiink--
the silverware chimes
she takes out one small shinning spoon and closes the drawer
--sliiink--
the silver slides into the cold pile of white and black
she slips it between two pink lips
mhhhhhmmmm
she closes her eyes and slips in another bite
container now cooling her arms
mhhhmm!!
she hears a deep voice grumble behind her
she slides around and faces the giant behind her
a potential dragon
his face marked with scars of battle wounds and age
he raises the bushy white-blond eyebrows
that line his crinkly blue eyes
and nods to the stairs
she flashes her white teeth
smiling up at the big bear innocently
"Hi Daddy!"
she says cheerfully
-caught in the act

When the Cradle Fails

When Cradle Fails

This is a piece of scandalous news, bound to ruffle more than just feathers..
A breaking story such as this, human interest and sympathy are very much raised…
With a damning picture of a child lying within an inverted crib that clearly imprisoned…
The natural exuberance and spirit of a hapless child who suffers this indignity in silence..

O where are the guardians of the children, O how did it come down to such a base level…
When a child’s crib is horrendously turned upside down in order to imprison the child…
When none are watching, when the coast is clear, what other atrocities are done..
Hapless children, handed over to a designated child care centre by loving parents..

Going by a horror story, to have peace and quiet and to do away with squalling children…
Food and drinks are laced with sedatives to give a hideous twist to the popular expression..
The innocent children, they sleep the deep sleep of the innocent here in a child centre…
I wonder, the sleeping child in the inverted crib, is it another case of sleeping drug at the centre…

Reading the news, blessed is the individual who has drawn attention to this child care centre…
Being a government sponsored initiative, heads must rolled and reprimands are in order…
Lackadaisical attitude and negligence in duties must be duly rewarded with harsh penalties…
For the welfare of the innocent children, away from the loving eyes of the busy loving parents..

Who else do we trust, or do loving parents be blissfully ignorant until when the cradle fails…

Whats Your Favorite Jimmy Buffett Song

We sang along to the lyrics that he wrote
Dancing and swaying to the music he composed
They’re all great in there own way
Let’s go back in time to that day
Where were you when you heard
your favorite Buffett song

Was it in a bar, on a beach or a boat
Middle of the pool sitting on a float
Making music for money behind door number three
Did ya see the crazy woman down on Carolina street

On your way to Paris or a slow boat to china
From the Bama breeze to the coast of Carolina
Who’s the blonde stranger with the tin cup chalice
And who are the gypsy’s staying in the palace
Trying to reason with hurricane season
Summer to Christmas in the Caribbean

Sitting in a hotel room daydreaming of Havana
Did you have to be there at the Fox in Atlanta
Maybe you were drinking boat drinks down around Biloxi
Or baking fruitcakes during the peanut butter conspiracy
Whether it’s the far side of the world with your little miss magic girl
Or one particular harbor seeking oysters and pearls
I found my cheeseburger in paradise
Heard the Jolly mon sing
It wasn’t just another Saturday night
Cause come Monday
We changed our attitudes and latitudes
It was time for a lovely cruise
They’re all songs you know by heart
If you have your license to chill
Follow the parrot heads to Margaritaville

We’ll miss him so badly
And when the coast is clear
We’ll wonder why we ever go home

So if you’re somewhere over china
Having some trauma in Tampico
There is a party at the end of the world
As we say goodbye to the
Son of a son of a sailor
Remember
If the phone doesn’t ring, it’s him

My Yentl Yeti

Living way up north in the snow,
was a yeti who was quite gullible,
wanted to keep the peace with him,
so told him I was his next of kin,

I hated to make up a story like that,
but didn't want him to one day attack,
being he lived so very close by,
had to watch out and keep a very wary eye,

But after I told him he'd become warmer,
unlike the days when his temper was stormier,
like a savage he'd do more than kick a can,
acting quite like an abominable snowman,

But now he'd come over for friendly visits,
clearing my driveway with his big gigantic fists,
even clearing the snow from off my roof,
making funny faces and acting like a goof,

I'm glad that he thinks I'm one of him,
he acts a little more happier and a lot less grim,
and as I get older my hair has become snow white,
which is similar to his and causes him delight,

One day my vehicle got stuck in the snow,
and alls he had to do was howl and blow,
my vehicle blown all the way to my house,
saving me a towing fee and a little gas,

He sure his handy to have around,
he does things which constantly astound,
thats why I let him sleep in my garage,
up for midnight snacks I hear his forage,

Thank God he's learning to eat what I eat,
since we were fast running out of yak and sheep,
learning to be a vegetarian he gets more gas,
having to swallow bean-o so he wont cause another avalanche,

When visitors come over he's got to hide,
otherwise they might run and cry,
thats when my yeti will go hang out with the local bears,
and come back home when the coast is clear.

Smoking In the Boys Room

You give into peer pressure and hesitantly cut class,
So you can smoke cancer sticks and,
Get high in the school bathroom with,
Five other boys that are your so called friends,
A security guard smells the cigarette smoke and,
Chases you out of the bathroom and down the hall,
Everyone gathers at the classroom windows to watch,
As eight more guards join in on the chase,
You run up and down the halls all the way to the eighth floor,
Quickly you hide in a supply closet as the guards turn the corner and run past,
Once the coast is clear you sneak back downstairs to the first floor,
Unwittingly you stop to talk to a girl,
In doing so the guards spot you on the cameras and give chase once again,
Unsuspecting you are rushed at by a guard and tackled,
Soon after all of the other guards pile on top,
All the while the girl you were talking to watches in amazement as you're,
Hauled off in flex cuffs to the principals office,
You sit in silence as the principal yells at you and,
Gives you three weeks of detention,
All the while you never knew that a fellow student recorded the whole ordeal,
And posted it on youtube under the name,
"kid gives school security guards a run for their money"
Which has already been viewed over three million times in the last five minutes,
You don't know it yet but you just went from being a nobody,
To a five star bad boy,

The Life of a Mouse

Oh, there it is.
A perfect dinner
for me and my kids.
This slice of holey cheese
no one will miss.

It lies on the rock
a long ten feet away
and though you may find this a shock,
for me life means danger.
You’re lucky; don’t talk.

I look carefully around
but once, twice, three times
nothing in sight but a mound
of hair; maybe leftovers from a hawk.
The coast is clear so I pound
my way over to my dinner.

Cheese, cheese, glorious cheese!
I’m closing in, about to claim it.
Oh! But a screech causes me to freeze
perfectly still from terror.
And out pounces a cat with claws as sharp as a bee’s
stinger.

“Felicity,” it hisses.
“Juicy mouse, you’re perfect
for the dinner I almost missed.
Come here,” it says.
“I can’t resist
such deliciousness.”

I silently say goodbye
to my kids
and with a little sigh
I think to myself I could never outrun
this nimble cat so I’m about to die.

I wait for death with my eyes squeezed shut
but nothing comes
and I open my eyes to see the butt
of Seth, the farmer’s kid.

He’s scooping up the moody cat
and while he’s turned
I scurry away, shivering with fear and relief from that
near death of mine.

What a shame.
That cheese was almost mine.
But surely I’ll be showered with fame
from my kids, at least,
for my luck that Seth came.

I hurry back to my house.
I’ll live to see another day.
Oh, the life of a mouse!

The chickens had scattered ever so quickly
Squawking and clucking, fearful and swiftly.
Feathers were flying as their panic set in
A fox near their pen tries to break-in.

His dinner is noisy, his dinner is fast
The chickens are frantic feeling aghast
But the fox is sly as well as cunning
He won't waste energy with too much running.

So he rests and waits until it is dark
Watching and ready about to embark.
The coast is clear or so it does seem
And silently sets out on his hunting regime.

He digs and slips under the wire
Wanting a dinner, his focus and desire.
Scents of his dinner arouses his hunger
Dinner taste better when the meat is younger.

Chickens in sight, which one to pick?
The fatter, the thinner or a little young chick?
Suddenly there's a light and the alarm bells ring
The chickens go mad, panics again in full swing.

The lights are bright the dogs bark is loud
The owner shouts out, the fox momentarily cowed
Dazzled and still for a moment or two
He needs to get out the quickest way through.

Quickly he scarpers, his head in a spin
He's hungry and may get a little more thin
Tomorrow he will search for another way in
For now he's managed to save his own skin.

In the Darkness

She seeps through the halls
Listening for him to bawl
Her illusions keep her awake
As her mind continues to break
No one taught her the truth
That her child died at youth
She knew of the fact
But only made her mind blacked
She lives in Meadow Lanes
Where she stays rooted with chains
If you head straight
You'll go into a dark fate
She's in the baby blue room
Where she holds her dead womb
She'll cause stairs to creak
And soon, she'll let out a loud shriek
It'll freeze you in your step
She'll appear, causing you to yelp
Stay frozen, don't move
Unless a tale she'll prove
She'll have tears on her flushed face
She won't move, she wants a chase
Don't give it to her
Stay still until the coast is clear
Don't worry, she'll leave
But she'll gather you as a pet peeve
Don't stay longer
Unless you want to end like Johnson's daughter
Don't ever come back
For now, the door gains another crack
That was a tragic tale you see?
Now child please, run along and go flee
If you want to know more
Why don't you head to my door?

Only Me - Part 2

The coast is clear now,
The masks they had on,
is now left there on the ground where they took off,
I now look at their pictures hung on my wall,
And hear a little of them every now and then,
I sleep and awake on the sound of the hollowness of their words,
I'm breaking into a whole new space,
With no one there,
" It's just you" my shadow whispered,
Caught by the shiver of the loneliness,
I've been there,
I'm doing it all over again,
But this time,
I choose doing it,
I don't want to have you again,
I don't want to lose myself again in losing you,
I'm broken by the wrong choices I've made,
I'm damaged by the regrets I feel,
The weight of them is taking my strength away,
All what I've been doing,
is pushing myself to the edges,
To fall and feel a rush,
to set fire and feel burned,
Easy and hard to every interruption and distraction,
I wish one day,
All this would leave me behind,
Let me go,
Back to myself again.

A Memory

As I begin to run
my eyes search for a hideaway
trying to dodge the the heat of the sun
this is one game I loved to play.

I spot a gathering of trees
the branches scrape past my face
I stop, fall to my knees
this could be a good hiding place.

I sit alone not making a sound
trying not to move in fear of losing cover
heavy footsteps approach thudding on the ground
I feel like the fox being hunted by the hound.

The footsteps disappear
and once again I am on my own
looking through the branches I see the coast is clear
can I make the journey home?

Running exhausted towards my safe den
blinded by the sun glaring in my eyes
heavy footsteps behind me once again
as my friends beckon me with their shrill cries.

I stumble home and the celebrations begin
jumping with joy and laughing out loud
we tried to ignore the bell calling us in
I always knew on that day I had done myself proud.
