Not There Before

You saved them then
But fell again
The circle’s in the sky

Divided fence
And happenstance
Don’t care if it’s a lie

Tomorrow’s day
Fades into grey
And blue melts into black

As silent sounds
And crushing pounds
Creep in for the attack

An empty stage
And crumpled page
Bleed deep into your brain

Don’t ever sleep
Don’t ever weep
Don’t ever feel the pain

The same old room
Familiar gloom
The same old window’s stare

As tears rain down
Disfigured clown
Why should you even care

But something now
Not there before
Won’t let you go away

A million voices
Fill the air
A million voices pray

Lost

I'm wanting to see just what me I can be.

I'm testing the waters to test gravity

I'm leaping with faith just to see where I land

I'm shedding my cover to find where I stand

I'm spreading my wings cause I think I can fly

I'm pulling the trigger and hope I don't die

I'm loosing my mind just to say it's been lost

I'm sailing the sea to find out if I'm tossed

I'm seeing to see and I'm trying to try

I'm doing to do and I'm not asking why

I guess I push limits to find who I am

I do what I do and I don't give a damn

Just where am I going...I never quite know

I'm just going for going and it's time to go

In My Eyes

I’m the one who’s always lost but then the one who’s always found.
I’m the one who’s always there and yet the one who’s not around.

I’m the one who wants to hold it all, but never wants to touch.
I’m the one who doesn’t give a damn because I care to much.

I’m the one who feels I can’t go on, but everyday I go.
I’m the one who tends to row upstream, but everyday I row.

I’m the one who all look up to, but the one they never see.
I’m the one who locked myself inside to set the others free.

I’m the one who if by chance you pause to look into my eyes…
You’ll see that I’m the one you’ve always looked for in disguise.

The Root of It All

"Write me a poem", she once said from her chair
And tell the dark secret that lies under there

Dig it up from the deepest and blackest of holes
Tell in poetry what you’ve not told to a soul

Write your way through the layers of cover you’ve used
To conceal the real issue that lies at the root

Of the vines and the thorns that grow out of your heart
Tell me, what do you keep so far down in the dark

For you never can heal if things stay as they are
Using bandaids and makeup to cover the scar

Yes, you’ll always be stuck in this state that you’re in
If you won’t write it out and let healing begin

Jezebel

Dim lit, damp and distant corner

Torn from dream of vapor’s fold

Slow descent to worlds divided

Nothing hot and nothing cold

Long ago, this soul forgotten

Cast off in the ides of youth

Un-forgiven deeds left hiding

Neath the stones of burden’s proof

Wait to see if fate redeems her

Wait to hear if time repeals

Sentence passed down just to mar her

Word and deed like flint and steel

‘Jezebel’ they mock to call her

Waging war against the skin

Pressed on by the mob’s directive

Let the judgment now begin

Scrutinize each blood stained footprint

Left across the ice drawn field

Hide the ones who hold her province

Never bend, no never yield

For from that damp and distant corner

Ever flows the world of hate

Through the veins of those who think they

Hold the key to Heaven’s gate

A Better Way

It seems so very long ago and yet like yesterday
We stood as one and made the vow to love and to obey

Then sealed this vow as things are done ‘until at death we part’
And at the time it never crossed my mind or found my heart

That such a vow has not the power to stand throughout the years
For as time passed, dreams turned to ash and laughter turned to tears

Tears born of little things that slowly took the will to strive
Until a pointless game it seemed to keep our love alive

But near the end a whisper came, “Don’t give up. There’s a way”
“The Savior died and rose again, and so will you someday”

And I’m not sure just why I‘d never had that thought before
But like a hand, it reached inside and opened up the door

And showed me what the Lord has always meant for love to be
A seed that spouts in life…but then grows on eternally

Midnight City

For the calm of new fallen snow lies in silent peace and stillness
Gently covering the loneliness of midnight city streets

And walking in the cold of night, I pause to stop and wonder
How can it be so unaware of where it present lies?
Has it not seen the desolation? Has it not heard the cries?

Perhaps it knows not the tales. Yes it seems so unaware
As it lies in quiet sanctity on the un-kept city ground
On the broken streets and walkways, and rooftops all around

And for a moment I too am unaware
That on morrow day when snow melts away
My walk shall again find the cold and blighted shadows
Of midnight city streets

But might the impression made this night rest forever upon my heart
That God is no respecter of persons. For He maketh His beauty to fall
Upon all of His children alike

Undone

Every morning
Warning signs are there to greet me
Waking
Shaking
I don't dare to face it
Fight it
Try and right it
Cuz it always turns out wrong

Every feeling
Leaves me
Reeling from the fear of falling
Calling
Calling out for you
I need you here...
To help me calm back down again

And I'm not the way I was
When you first loved me
And I'm not the one
I've tried so hard to be
And I'm not the one
To stand and try to tell you
That everything
Will be alright with me

Cuz it's not ok
I won't be fine
This war I wage inside my mind
Feels like the whole wide world is closing in
And there's nowhere to run

No, it's not ok
I won't be fine
I've been down one too many times
No way to hide it anymore
I've come undone

----------------------------------

Everyone I see
Reflected in their eyes
It's always me
Hiding from the way I feel inside
And longing for the way it's always been

Every night alone
Sinking
As I slowly turn to stone
Terrified
I'm losing you, I see
I'll soon be on my own again

Cuz I'm not the one I was
When you first loved me
And I'm not the one
I've tried so hard to be
And I'm not one who can lie
And try to tell you
That everything
Will be alright with me

Cuz it's not ok
I won't be fine
This war is raging in my mind
Feels like world is closing in
And there is just nowhere to run

No, it's not ok
I won't be fine
I've been here one too many times
It's time to face it on my own
I've come undone

Pages

Haunted feelings carried by
Wings of night as shadows fly

Drip drop words from pages then
Feed the fire like oxygen

Muffled voices through the door
Phrases heard once long before

Rhythm opened eyes now see
Lost forgotten parts of me

Black on white then white again
Ghostly paths to where I’ve been

Keys then press themselves to say
Things I want to hide away

Lowered hands at last let go
Worried worlds lie far below

Rising vantage ever on
Poem by poem and song by song

Dusted dancing leads to lead
Fast descent to slumber’s bed

Dawn of light and break of day
Melts the night mist fast away

But drifting silent to the floor
Are pages…as they were before

Once In a While

It’s hard to find
From time to time
The strength to read between the lines
Of all the things you say
And what you do

It’s hard to be
What you want from me
It’s hard to swing from the highest tree
But I am climbing up the branches
Just for you

You never let me go, but never let me stay
My heart’s a wreck from the games you play
I’m torn apart by the things you hide
First I lost my way and then I lost my pride…

So look at me
And perhaps you’ll see
I’ve givin everything and still it isn’t me
Who brightens up your day
Or makes you smile

So I’ll walk away
It’s what I have to do
And when I’m gone, all I ask of you
Is try to think of me…
Once in a while
