Mi Mejor Amiga de Caramelo

Mi mejor amiga de caramelo,
dulce como un sueño de algodón,
con risas que saben a verano
y abrazos llenos de canción.

Guardas azúcar en las palabras,
y miel en cada mirar,
cuando el mundo se vuelve amargo,
me enseñas otra vez a confiar.

A title like "Mi Mejor Amiga de Caramelo" feels like a pink ribbon around a memory jar, sweet, playful, and full of affection. ????

Once called a fairy tale, it endures the test of time,
While man’s reason falters and philosophers resign.
From Epicureans lost and ancient pagans gone,
Christianity’s story steadfastly marches on.
Once called atheists by the Romans
Ironically they have the doldrums
Its plot, its heart, cannot be stripped away,
No morals, no miracles, no truth without its sway.
Other faiths may linger when the wonders have begun,
Yet strip the Bible’s marvels, and its story is undone.
God become Man the tale that makes (not breaks) our rules,
No legend or teaching from any other wise or ancient schools
Dares claim Incarnation, love descending from the skies
A philosopher’s tale for children, but for grown and searching eyes.
Where are these philosophers today? Have they not all gone away:
Lucretius, Julian the Apostate, Averroes, The Gnostics of the ancient world
Voltaire, La Mettrie, Ayer and those who reason in a destructive whirl?
No Buddha, no Socrates, nor prophet in the East,
Would dare declare themselves as God, or take on this Holy Paraclete:
If you ask the Buddha, "Are you the son of Brahma?"
He would have said "You’re in the veil of illusion to even ask” comma
If you would have asked Socrates, are you Zeus?"
          he would have scowled then laughed at you
 If you ask Confucius, "Are you in heaven, Tien?
“It is bad taste in a polite society to ask.” He would have said
If you would ask Muhammad, "Are you Allah?" he would have rent
           his clothes in rage and then probably cut off your head.
Yet Jesus, among all others, declared divinity,
So the tale persists, a mystery for eternity.
Reason remains but doubters pass, their systems now mislaid,
But the tale of Incarnation this miracle remains unswayed.
A philosopher’s tale that lives as fact, a story hard to sever,
The heart of faith and meaning, enduring now, forever.
On the Christian anvil many hammers have been exhausted
Just precisely because of what it costed

B ruised by bitter blows
R age uncontrolled, bestowed
U nable to break free, I cringe
T error terrifies… yet again…yet again
A rsenal of belittling weaponry, employed
L ayer upon layer, neglect enshrouds
I solation from the questioning world, enforced
Y ou are brutally brutal…yet again…yet again

Not something I'm experiencing, but abuse is not only physical...It can be mental, emotional, verbal, psychological....Neglect is also a form of abuse.

In trying to find pics for this poem...I traveled to an ugly world. The images are haunting. I'm sickened to my core. The images will stay with me....children, the elderly, women, men, animals...all suffering. I'm sure if we are honest with ourselves, we will admit to being abusive at times. :( Let's make a change.

Singapore tryst
Old times bordering;
Restored trade regime

Old Chinatown alleys
Winding streets await;
Takeaway souvenirs

Buzzing bazaars
Colourful wares shout;
Attractions ply

Smith Street
Chinatown circuit;
Oriental stuff

Strange name
Telok Ayer Street?
Meaningful glimpses

This Chinese temple
Tourists assemble;
Photo snapshots

Old men playing
Chinese chess;
Stone table forum

Street vendors
Crafts and wares;
Brisk commotion

Somnolent sunset
After light drizzle;
Swamp of human faces

Lost in the crowd
Two tiny specks
Seeking ***** bargains

Tucked in a corner
This awkward shoppe;
Viagra and company

Loud music blasts
Accompany footsteps;
Curiosity in-transit

Sea of faces
Mini United Nations;
Cosmopolitan nuances

Old shop houses
Clusters of modern comforts;
Brisk eateries

Chinese medical tonics
Healthy equilibrium;
Discerning aphrodisiacs

Feel the pulse
Crowd en passant;
Curious eyes feast

Bumpy movement
Feet gravitate;
Looking and searching

So much to see
Discover again;
That long-lost find!

Memories of making these with my dad.
Each time they were delicious, cooking with my dad priceless.
Add garlic, onion, seasoning, ketchup, crushed saltine crackers and egg.
Toss with raw hamburger, add salt and pepper, shape into round balls.
Bake in the oven for fifty minutes, your house will smell Italian.
Always let them cool, you will be tempted to eat one right away!
Layer them in pasta sauce, let them simmer, an hour or two.
Lots of fresh pasta pairs well, eat them plain, a full plate or a few.
Spread a huge serving, add sauce and pasta, no diets allowed!
