During a midnight snowfall
You hear nothing
Unlike the pitter patter
When it is raining.
During a midnight snowfall
It can't knock you down
Unlike the merciless wind
That throws you to the ground.
During a midnight snowfall
It is quiet enough for slumber
Unlike the rumble rumble
When there is thunder.
During a midnight snowfall
It is peaceful
Unlike the ripping-crashing
Of a tornado.
During a midnight snowfall
There's a happy ending
Unlike the heartbreaking damage
Brought by a hurricane.
During a midnight snowfall
There are no violent winds causing ice burns
Unlike its reckless brother
The frostbiting blizzard
It may be freezing
You may not like the weather
But wouldn't you prefer a midnight snowfall
Over other natural disasters?

Shades of gray, shaded shadowed blues,
darken the sky in wintry hues,
it is a calm before the storm news
awaiting cold, ice and snow reborn.
Mid- December chills the air forlorn
frostbiting any who venture there in scorn
where spring and dry hot summers were once adorn
yet fail to quench the earth from its sleepy slumber.
Frozen crunches beneath the oaken lumber
expose creatures seen in the hawk's mighty plunder,
winter bides its time and place in rumbles of thunder
taking hold with boldly haste.
Life flows, evolves and hurries as if in chase
despite the falling of the snows upon our race,
cold and dark the season soon is erased
that brings us joy for the best of reasons.
Family gatherings and celebrations of the season
in birth of a savior, gratitude, faith and elation teasing,
recall the hymns and sing the refrains most pleasing
because of Christmas, we have eternal life anew.

frostbiting any who venture dares.
Late spring and dry hot summers
failed to quench the earth from its slumber.
Frozen turf crunches beneath a walk
and few creatures seen but for the hawk.
Winter bides its time and place
taking hold with boldly waste.
