Risking it all
in the earthbound sky
Her summit was calling,
the weather defies
An avalanche beckoned,
one Sherpa was lost
A trek through the death zone,
another one gone
The temperature dropping,
the oxygen sparse
My crampons now heavy
and feeling much worse
To retreat or push on,
the danger the same
All hail Sagarmatha
—still calling my name

"User name" and "password"
That's all you need to know.
Type them in , press "enter"
Then you’re fine to go.
Sounds quite simple really,
Till your memory starts to wane,
You trawl the deepest caverns
Of your tired and aging brain.
You thump the keyboard harder
As your temper starts to fray,
And curse the screen before you
With its "road block" in the way.
No pet, place or loved one’s name
Will give you access rights,
When you cannot remember
Those all important bytes.
Defeated, crazed you finally press
"Forgot your password?" key
But can't answer all the questions
To get you through security
To release your rescue e-mail
From this digital dictator,
Requires you reacquaint yourself
With your "administrator" ?
So how do you escape
From this technical morasse?
Caught with no ropes or crampons
In this digital crevasse ?
Well this is my solution
When you face the software snub,
Pull out the plug, put on your coat
And "log off" down the Pub !

there is inspiration afoot!
come! see the photons splay
come! here the waves arc
inhaling smokin' oaken memory
walk the shoes of your life
brush hard into the wind
lean into it...and into me
before the mast's salt spray
crampons push to higher views
amass the scenes and scents
musty, the book's words billow
into your imaginative face
fill your trinketed pockets
with candies, screws, and cameos
handfuls cast to the crowds
giving the taking...is living

Glittering diamond summit, was only one day away.
Genetic characteristics, now coming to the fray.
Evaluating patience and a knack for fearing fear.
Drive ice-screw into crevice with the summit drawing near.
Speculative Winter sun,in a mortuary of blue.
Everest conquered only,by the very chosen few.
Snarling pit-bull winds with oxygen levels low.
Bar-headed geese feed on climbers down below.
Months of seasoned snowfall, lies dormant up above.
Metamorphisising snowflakes, slide like a velvet glove.
Snow now starts to shift,on the angled valley floor.
The sound every climber fears,a deathly thunderous roar.
Snow is all around them as they swim to stay on top.
It hammers down the mountain-side and just doesn't stop.
Shovels,crampons,ice-picks now litter the terrain.
Hooks and pulleys mangled from the snows heavy strain.
Rejected by the mountain as they tumble to their graves.
This altitude has attitude,no fortune for the brave.
Bar-headed geese circle in the valley of the dead.
As hours go by the snow there, has turned a crimson red.

Alexandre, the young alpinist from a southern France,
attaches crampons to his tough climber's booths,
to ascend the dangerous ridges of Mount Rose,
and with the same ice axe, he climbed Mount Everett!
