The City Calls It's Own

A child races
down an alleyway
    after a red ball
A women opens
her apartment window
     to let in fresh air
Truck drivers
shift into gear
     axious to get
to their destination
  on time
The city calls
its own
     Workers, businessman,
young and old,men and women
       They're all
part of the urban mosaic
Taste the wine of the metropolis
let the
city into your soul
We'll be rewarded
       in the end
as we watch
     urban visages
smile in the crisp air
of late October

From My Window

I see the lights
on the bridge
   from my window
cars moving along
   the highway
bring thousands to
      their destinations
  You can't ask
for more than
    can be given
but really - if you don't
expect much you won't get much
     All those people
out there in the
     darkness
     What are they
searching for?
    Well, if dawn
is its own answer
    we have nothing to
worry about
     Voices in the
shadow continue to
sing sweet and
  low
traffic continues to move
      Let's not give
up our urban dreams
  just yet
We still can hope
 for a good
  resolution
To the problem of living
   in the metropolis
to the problem of living
among the urban masses
