THE ISLANDS OF SAN JUAN - TIMESHARE
[FOLKTALE]
IN A PORTION, A SPELL IS CASTE.
THE PEOPLE ARE CALLED NUGLUMMI.
IN A TRANCE STATE, THEY EAT HONEY AND BEES ARE FORM FROM THEIR EYES.
INSIGHTFULLY THEY BEGIN TO TRANSFORM THE TERRAIN AND ISLANDS FORMED FOR THE FREEDOM OF WOMAN AND MAN.
THE PEOPLE OF THE SEA ARE FREE IN THE PUGET SOUNDS.
DOUGLAS FIR GROWS TALL.
THE LANDSCAPE IS EVERGREEN AND THE LUMMIS ARE SALISAN.
DIALECTIC VERSIONS OF THIS LANGUAGE ARE POSSESSED.
THEIR LOGIC IS HOW THEY TAKE CARE OF THEMSELVES.
*
THE PENINSULA THAT RESIDES IN THEIR TOPOGRAPHY IS VAST IN SHAPE AND FASHIONED BY THE UNINHABITED PORTAGE ISLAND WHERE THEIR RESERVED LAND NOW LAYS. LIKE MANY NORTHWEST COAST TRIBES, THEY GASTRONOMY CONSISTS OF THE COLLECTING OF SHELLFISH, GATHERING OF PLANTS SUCH AS CAMAS AND DIFFERENT SPECIES OF BERRIES, AND MOST IMPORTANT, AS SALMON FISHERMEN, THEY DEVELOPED “REEF NETTING.”
THEY ENJOY POTLATCH ON THE ORCAS ISLAND, SAN JUAN ISLAND, LUMMI ISLAND, FIDALGO ISLAND, PORTAGE ISLAND, AND NEAR POINT ROBERTS AND SANDY POINT.
IN ALL NUGLUMMI, WERE COMMERCIAL TO THEIR TRADE.
THEY GREATER HARVEST IS TODAY.
THE PADDLE TO LUMMI IS 68 CANOEING FAMILIES PADDLING HAND-MADE CANOES TO THE LUMMI RESERVATION FROM PARTS OF WASHINGTON STATE AND BRITISH COLUMBIA.
**
[TODAY]
THESE ISLANDS OF THE PUGET SOUNDS IS TOO FAR AWAY TO HEAR.
WITH A GRAIN OF SALT, THE SEA SWEEPS THE BEACH.
REMEMBRANCE IS IN WALKING SILENTLY AND HEARING THE TRIBAL SINGING IN SALISH.
THESE ISLANDS ARE A CASTAWAYS HAVEN – A HARBOR OF CONTENTMENT, WHICH LAY IN BRITISH COLUMBIA AND THE NORTHWESTERN UNITED STATES.
ROMANTIC ENDEAVORS ARE BASED ON YOUR IMAGINATION.
THESE ARE THE SAN JUAN ISLANDS OF WASHINGTON STATE.

An Orangutan said to the Chimpanzee,
“I’m bored and tired, hanging in this tree.”
Going to pack my bag and move to the States,
Live with Gus Gorilla, and hang out with his mates.
The Chimpanzee thought hey, that’s a good idea,
I know a Spider Monkey who lives in South Korea.
Owns a posh apartment, he keeps as a timeshare
Sent me a text, “come over, I’ve a room to spare”
However;
Neither liked the city and soon realised their mistake,
Noisy, brash and crowded, somehow rather fake.
They moved back to the jungle and so began to see,
Home is where the heart is;
and that’s where you should be.

I remember the exclusive Walt Disney days,
We used to travel there with our parents.
Stayed at a beautiful timeshare Limetree, Sarasota.
Then we visited the Walt Disney kingdom.
Father Dr. Wolf would drive us there,
We bought tickets for Walt Disney world.
Our parents were just the nicest parents you could know,
There was a parade when you came to visit.
They had many activities, my recollection of those days is limited.
Many nice boutiques, I purchased two T shirts for Kirk and Erik,our sons.
We would walk along the white sandy beach and collect sea shells,
Then we would travel to St. Armands on the bus for twenty-five cents.
We dined at the exclusive harbor restaurant and the hotel restaurant,
Our mother and father used love to take us dinning.
Our timeshare was right on the beach,
You could walk for hours, what a beautiful sunrise and sunset each day.

The valley was so green
To my love swept eyes,
And all that I now beheld,
Was so alive with life.
There seemed to be
Melodies of unknown
Origins, floating on
Air massaging my
Ears, pricking my heart.
And I would sit so full,
Knowing no pains of
Physical hunger, for my
Present state would not
Allow it to happen.
For my hunger was of
A different nature that
Could never be satisfied
But by the one who cast
Her spell on me.
For I would never again
Be satisfied, unless I
Became a part of the
Matrix of her heart.
I needed to taste of
the endless pleasures
Which I longed to explore
In the current timeshare,
That found my heart being
Cradled in her hands.
I could not move far
away from her side,
As the pleasures that
Her love brought to my
daydream, swept my
Love filled mind away.
And when I awakened,
My hunger was replaced
By a much stronger need...
To make her mine.

Poignant insights;
Experience sculpts
~~~~~~~~~
July moon
Speaks softly;
A lover's sigh
~~~~~~~~~
Voices cease
Sleep intrudes;
Metamorphosis
~~~~~~~~~
Ask for the way
Seek that strange road;
Dear nowhere man
~~~~~~~~~
Tiny grey parrot chick
Brief sojourn here;
Gone with the wind
~~~~~~~~~
Brief timeshare
Short stopover;
Teary grief
~~~~~~~~~
To come is to go
To go is to come;
Circle complete
~~~~~~~~~
Words fail
Echoes cease;
Love is
~~~~~~~~~
Old frangipani tree
Silence speaks;
Flowers for words
~~~~~~~~~
Zen sand garden
Poise beyond voice;
Silent ecstasy
Fragile bone china
Tea cup well used;
Hairline crack edge
Wayfarers meet
Timeshare briefly;
Agendas halt here
~~~~~~~~~
By this corner
Newspaper vendor laughs;
Service with a smile

By this pathway
A chance meeting;
Discourse en passant

Watch that madman
In easy sway;
So much to say

Fifty years young;
Singapore's birthday

We think of you
With profound pride;
This awesome journey

Here for a while
Let us wear smiles;

We learn
Bit by bit;

You’re a consumer pawn on the cargo chessboard,
being merchandise moved
by the mighty,
free-market bellow powers-that-be:
The Babble Tower titans of industry
And the fawning, vote hopes that you have
is advancing
conveyor belt backwards
The packaged progress that you ballot bought
is expired, retrograde liberty
It’s so commercially uncool
to be a grin shill, shiny used tool —
a patsy E-bay product sold down perdition road
Material serendipity ~ Ignorant bliss gluttony
is the narcotic, marketing mirage
of merchant debt slavery
Arise, to another automated labor dawn,
and get usury pressed on the profit iron board
Let the starch resistance in your lungs
feebly be diminished echo expunged,
on the first and third week of each month
Stop the clock grindstone ... get spend happy
Pass Go and retail sample
all your Mediterranean mall eyes can eat
Strap the credit Boardwalk bank accounts in;
enjoy the lavish buffet discount weekends,
those gorge giddy sinful getaways
Letting your pursed lips coin splurge comfortably
Tomorrow sorrows is yesterday hangover yawns,
courtesy of some loan shark upper-class spawns
giving you more underwater mortgage freedom
Atlantis dream house of plastic bondage
is a back-to-the-future, antiquity straw commodity
Buy another fetter timeshare bronze skin link,
written in New Roman font invisible ink:
An emancipation contract redacted permanently
Then pulse pawn a purchased posterity lot
of pyramid beggarly,
plantation shade retrograde liberty

I remember our exclusive Florida vacation,
Days with my sons, sister and parents.
They gave us a chocolate Santa and a bag of oranges,
When we arrived at the airport from Canada.
The long walks along the white sandy beach,
The beautiful shells that you could collect along the way.
I would put them on the bench of my balcony to display them,
I brought them with me when i returned to Canada.
The roar of the ocean and waves,
You could see the white caps on the waves, truly memorable.
The swim in their exquisite swimming pool,
I would wear my royal purple bathing suit and go for a swim.
We would go to the local restaurant with our relatives,
And dine on the delicious foods.
Saint Armands was our favorite place to shop and dine,
I bought the lizard T- shirts for my sons.
I received a beautiful blue Abalonia shell as a present,
This is very popular in Florida.
A trip to Disneyland at Christmas,
I remember the marching parade down the main street.
We visited at our dear friends house,
Good to see them again and dine.
Visiting our parents' time share,
Mother would cook us a delicious lunch.
We visited back and forth,
Sometimes they would dine at out timeshare.
New Year's Day we watched the fireworks with friends,
They were exquisite patterns in the sky.
Beautiful memories that I will always cherish,
We are always very blessed to holiday together.

I diddn't notice my mother's jewelry she wore
As funeral procession becomes vain bonfire
The mask older becoming amber aspic
As more relics are worn more frequently.
Diamonds are too much for the grocery store,
As amethyst doesn't wear well by day anymore.
Still we have the whole set of pearls
To wear at dying processionals.
I haven't a thing to wear at my funeral.
Let's put it off as long as we can
And I'll keep buying more time.
No layaway though.
I don't like the way that sounds.

Christmas in Florida, beautiful and breezy,
They gave us a chocolate Santa and a bag of oranges upon arrival.
The roar of the ocean could br heard.
I remember the long walks along the white sand.
The sea shells in the sand that we collected,
Visits to my parent's timeshare with my sons.
Our timeshare was decorated for Christmas,
A beautiful place to be and stay.
The visits to St. Armands and the Longboat Key restaurant,
The beautiful fashion boutique where they modeled fashions at lunch.
The swim in the swimming pool nearby,
The mild weather which made swimming possible.
We would meet my parents , the children's grandparents,
Lunch was a good time had by all.
Celebrating Christmas with parents and children was a special day,
We exchanged presents and had a delicious Christmas dinner.
We met with friends and had a lovely dinner,
They came over from their house to visit with us.

The beautiful St. Armands, Sarasota, Florida,
A holiday with my children Kirk and Erik and my parents.
The timeshare at the beach,
Owned by Dr. Erika and Dr. Wolf.
Condominium was exquisitely decorated,
My sons Kirk and Erik stayed with me.
There was a beautiful white sandy beach,
Where we would go for long walks and collect sea shells.
We would go dinning at the nearby restaurant ,
Which had delicious foods, my favorite was the place by the sea.
I collected sea shells of different shapes and sizes,
My favorite shell was the abalone which I received complimentary when i bought a necklace.
My mother and I went shopping together,
I also bought T-shirts for my sons.
Mother would also invite us for dinner, she would cook a delicious dinner,
That is a very good memory, we would visit with my sister Antje and mom and dad.
Those our days to remember , blessed by God,
We returned safely to our parents' Lorne Park house.

There was a very handsome guy named Lance
He was born in a small town in south France
Happened to be a fake
Needs to jump in the lake
Sold timeshares, but needed cash advance

When on vacation with my children and parents,
We had a beautiful timeshare where we lived.
There was a beautiful sandy beach in front of the condominium,
You could walk for miles and collect beautiful shells.
We could walk over to our parents' timeshare,
Visit with my sister and parents,
Our mother would cook a delicious lunch,
We would all come over to dine or we would go to a beautiful restaurant.
The roar of the ocean could be heard as you walk along the beach,
I liked collecting shells, packed them in a cookie tin.
Brought them back to Canada, sand filled shells,
Memories of the exquisite days visiting Sarasota.
We would visit St. Armands, a lovely place to buy T-shirts and fashions,
I bought a beautiful abalony necklace and they gave me a complimentary shell.
Those were the beautiful days to remember with our relatives,
God blesses us this and many ways.

Ambition
by Odin Roark
We ponder
Natural versus man made
We marvel at technology
Remembering youth’s innocence
Adult expectations
We bolt
Futures filled with confusion
The imperative of progress
Move with the flow
Or be left behind
We escape
Wondering about the conundrum
The future unknown
The past unchanged
The present rife with decision
We walk
Trails beneath our feet
Birds above our head
Flowers blanketing the tundra
Wildlife to photograph
Huts for resting
We run
Timeshare development at our heels
Everyone wishing to live beyond
Never knowing long term costs
The kind slowly absorbing our oxygen
Consumption’s methodical genius
“We’ve arrived!”
But where?

There once was a woman titled Clair
who bought a spectacular timeshare
she got caught in their net
put five years into debt
and complained it simply wasn't fair.
