Your Words Have Crawled Slowly Into My Thought

Your words have crawled slowly into my thought
And I will listen to what they say
Because the silence of the wind is heavy,
And I cannot bear the weight.

I have often asked myself, why
I complicate simple things so—
And why there are joys when consumed
By an obese grief. But I do not wish to sing the
Old melodrama; I do not have a voice.
I would much rather sit beside you
Watching the flowing river before us,
Listening to the current
Dividing,
And translate what it tries to say.

I know there are worse sorrows miles away
But what matters most to me
Is thawing the frozen stillness between us.

You are the words that inhabits my thought
And I will listen to what you say.
Because the silence of the wind is heavy,
And I cannot bear to wait.

I do not want to be the mistake—
The fading cloud with concrete drops of rain...
Or the wrecked statue with the sad crumpled face.

I’d rather be the light that scratches
Your window curtains
In the early knocks of day.
Or the shy smile between conversations
When there is nothing left to say.

I am very sorry.
I do not wish to lose you as a friend; to lose everything.
I do not wish to sleep poorly and speak to the walls every evening.

Words Lost

The words left unsaid that drive us apart
The words left unsaid that stick like a needle in your heart.
The words left unsaid that roll down your face
The words left unsaid that never found their place.
The words left unsaid lying alone in the dark
The words left unsaid never in drive but always in park.
The words left unsaid that dance across my lips
The words left unsaid can’t mean much more than this.
The words left unsaid are I’m sorry and I care
These are the words that weren’t always there.
The words I love you, I hate you, are contradictory words
Words that get down to your heart and nerves.
Words that brighten your day then darken the next hour
Words that can feed but can kill an innocent flower.
Words that bring together and words that can rip apart
Words that can bring joyous feelings, but can also break your heart.
Words that can be chosen for your heart and soul
The words I say are that that I’m sorry and I’ll never let you go.

A Friend I'D Like To Meet

A Friend I’d Like to Meet
     By Dane Smith-Johnsen

I have a friend I’d like to meet.
She is a pearl, a real live treat.
The words she writes are very sweet.
I feel her love with each heartbeat.

To see her face would be so neat.
She sits not on a lofty seat.
She lives not on the Isle of Crete.
Nor does she loving friends delete.

The coastal waters cool her heat.
And where she lives, there is no sleet.
A gentle breeze makes life complete.
So, each day’s glow she does repeat.

You’ll never hear harsh words that bleat.
And nock a stranger off his feet.
With kindness she does ill defeat.
She walks upon God’s narrow street.

These words I send to my friend’s feet.
Where goodness never knows retreat.
God bless your heart so strong and sweet.
Please don’t give up; we two shall meet.

Sorry, Carolyn. I missed your message. God bless you.
