Tears of My Mother

When my mother moaned
As she witnessed her daughter depart this life
I was touched by the glitter in her tears
        Tears of emancipated love,
The sort ordinary in a woman
         That is not faked or imperfect;
But my father admonished me
That her tears were psychologically adulterated,
That her tears were meant to delude me-
After all fatality of a son is more devastating.
I did not accept as true what father told me
For I knew the lie in male psychology
So I ran from him without looking back
And followed mother to her bedroom
And I wiped away the tears from her face:
         She was my mother
         And I was her son
I could not let her cry alone.

She Used To Cry

She used to cry
She would be alone
And suddenly scared
She’d call to me and
I’d rush there

She’d act so brave
But then it would come
The crack in her voice
The pain that wouldn’t numb

This woman who has been so respected
Dear to so many,
Treasured by her family
Now sat beside me
Feeling rejected

And starting to cry she visibly shook
She said you know I can’t remember
I think so hard and it won’t come
How much will I lose before it is done

I became the mom
And she my child
As I wrapped her in my arms
And protectingly rocked her
My love so full but not able to
Save her from what this disease would do

Whenever she’d call
I’d come and pray
But this night the prayer was different
I prayed as if I was holding my dearest child
I prayed that the Father would wrap her in his arms
Give her comfort and the confusion would be mild

I prayed He would be the Father that she now needed
And His voice would be the one that she now heeded
And she could feel the love of so many
And rest

She doesn’t cry now
She doesn’t know
She accepts her plight
To live in the darkness of night
She lives in confusion
And forgets the illusion
That she will get better

She doesn’t cry now

Dedicated to Nell Young Wise
An amazingly precious soul
That I call mom
Slipping further into dementia

Beacon In My Mind

Thy every deed heralds thy open love
I see God in flesh helping me
Mother dear, modest and gentle as dove
I picture myself tender like thee

Thy leap years cuddle chased my fear
Goodbye. Your answering call as close as my
Hair, your inner peace, teach me life to bear
Father told me your virtue I should buy

But to be my mama is not to be a woman
A pure heart she had said was the key
That's why the boy and the man
In father loves her still. Ingibo, father put her in me

When I become a mother and wife
My Mother, I shall live in my life

My World, my life

My life is like a lotus blossom, blooms in adversity
Lived in hell for many generations...walked as a sojourner
Prayed for peace and love...still waiting on the Lord
Be patient good and faithful servant
                      Sharon B The desert rose
We will, be in peace forever amen
May the doves, turtle doves Rome our Earth motherfather earth. Feed her nurture her, love her. Stay out of trouble. After a hurricane comes a colorful rainbow. Rainbows are Innocent and bright like my daughter edelle vise or foggy princess. Life is what you make out of it..we all have issues, but make it count. Give the Lord our Glory honesty and communication are the key to the paradise or God's kingdom...why did God create creation...because it is beautiful amen....

Even though she never went to college, she watches Jeopardy each night and gets all the
answers right.

Even though she never had the need for a passport, she can talk about foreign cities as if
she grew up there as a young girl.

Even though she bore seven children into this world, she never lost her form and figure.

Even though she reads practically every book on the New York Times Best Sellers List, she
still finds time to read my amateurish drivel and brags about how much she likes them.

Even though she was raised in a strict Catholic environment, she easily and lovingly
accepted my brother’s announcement, and somehow convinced my ex-Marine father to do
the same, when he came out of the closet.

Even though she knew nothing about what was happening on the mat, she attended all my
high school wrestling matches and hers was the only voice I could hear, much to my coach’s
chagrin, amongst all the shouting and cheers.

Even though she had never worked a day in her life, she got a job as an accountant at fifty
years of age when my father was laid up for a while. The owners of the company loved her
so much they did not want her to go once my father was back on his feet again.

Even though she says her mother never made her do a domestic chore when she was
growing up, she maintains an impeccably clean home and is the most wondrous of cooks.

Even though she took care of seven kids all week while my father worked all day, she
always let him play golf on Saturdays or lounge around on the couch should the weather not
cooperate.

Even though she now has twelve grandchildren, she treats each one as being special and
displays a knowledgeable interest in the unique skills each one possesses.

Even though she turns eighty in one month, she has not heard this son tell her he loves her
enough…

Mom, I love you very much. Thank you for being you.
