Premium Member Waves of Change

Waves of Change

Changes in life descriptionalized
In comparison to waves of the ocean
Our bodies are made mostly of water
A body of water with flowing emotions

Now an ocean will flow peacefully
Until there is a bit of turbulence
Disrupting from a smooth flow
With the up and down currents

As we walk onto a new path
A different kind of feeling steps in
New ventures can be scary in thought
Of what is left behind when we begin

An air of difference can bring on a spin
To a funnel effect as does a water spout
Sometimes when in the spin motion cycle
We are shaded by clouds and cannot see out

When actually caught within the spin
We do not see the change is there
Our sense of direction is lost
We become totally unaware

If you are the one caught
Within that fast paced spin
You will not be able to see
The shape you are really in

That’s the time we need someone
To give us a tap on the shoulder
It’s not a matter of who knows more
Or which one of the other is older

You’ll need a friend like Dory was
Saying to just keep swimming the sea
To never give up your hopes and dreams
As changes in life really just happen to be

Premium Member The Enjoyment of Life

Dedication: Thanks to all of my dear family and friends who share the joy of life with me!

The Enjoyment of Life

To find the enjoyment of life
For the moments we live
It matters not what we do
It is who we do it with

As we should find our joy
They say for every situation
Bad times can even feel good
Being with a special someone

We are filled with joy at birth
Spiritually given from above
Most folks forget it’s there
Looking elsewhere for love

We are also given friends
Along our allotted path
To remind us of the joy
Deep within we all hath

Cherish your special friends
Treasure moments you share
To find the enjoyment of life
A true friend will take you there

Let go of all your worries and smile
Then you’ll start to feel the joy within
Though you can always double the joy
When sharing it with a good friend

EXAMPLE

We are on this Earth to learn
With a sample of description
A visual account of the relevant
Or a biblical parable illustration

That is what is called the example
The right way we should be taught
First is the beginning of the word
Exam, a test that must be caught

Then when you do finally catch on
And, actually begin to really know
You will get to become the example
Teaching while you continue to grow

An example is being the mimic
Of what has happened already
Ex means past, to look back on
Ample is the full reference we see

A live sample view of the lesson
Which is the reflection of your life
As you climb up the steps to success
Or spiral down tangled rows of strife

We do learn and teach by example
Be sure exactly who you are imitating
For the example to be set as good
Or a truth of moral you are illustrating

The example can be either visualized
By your reflection or given spiritually
Like a parable coming from the Bible
Either way it is being like a mere copy

It seems easy to learn, teach, set or be
An example of a genuine duplication
Yet it is so difficult for me to describe
Just this simple example explanation

Premium Member Follow the Yellow Brick Road

This poem was originally written in 2012 and now I have a special couple to dedicate it to: George & Dolores Reyna. They are the perfect retired couple who brightens their own path, no matter what gloom may be around. They are following the yellow brick road….
Follow the Yellow Brick Road
As I was walking
Along my chosen path
Where each step marks
A notch this world hath
I caught a glimpse of
A Yellow Brick Road
Like the one from Oz
Once long ago told
Now how the glimpse
Came my way
I chose a path to take
On a sunny day
Back to work from break
Strolling merrily along
Head held high with joy
Whistling a happy song
I jumped over a little crack
Just purposely out of my way
Being sure to be aware
Never matters which day
As I came up to my office
Tapping a rock with my heel
Then the feeling hit me
The vision seemed very real
A comparison factor in our minds
Creating obstacles out of fear
Or do we step over them
To prove we are there
It’s our choice to place sunshine
On the path we choose to go
Thus creating a happy path
To Follow the Yellow Brick Road

Tell the Stories

Zora Neal saw that Their Eyes Were Watching God, when
Toni Morrison heard The Song of Solomon, and
James Baldwin Told It on the Mountain, while
W.E.B. DuBois embraced The Souls of Black Folks
Richard Wright was a Black Boy, that’s why
Dr. Maya Angelo Knew Why the Caged Bird Sang
Iyana Vanzant found Peace Within Pieces, when
Lorraine Hansberry ate a Raisin in the Sun, while

Premium Member The Beauty Within

The Beauty Within

When a heart is kind
Goodness seeps into your mind

Peacefulness flows all about
As the inner beauty turns inside out

When the kindness of the heart is given
Energy flows with life worth living

All living life comes from the Lord
His inner beauty keeps us in accord

That glorious beauty of nature
Shows God’s kind heart so pure

The beauty is an unspoken love
That comes from our Lord above

When we begin to focus
On God’s beauty all around us

A sense of peace will slowly start
As you feel the goodness of God’s heart

It is all the glory of the Lord’s
Gracious beauty of His innards

Kindness begets kindness like a friend
Pouring out all the beauty from within

Not everyone can see inner beauty
As we all look at others differently

Only within the eyes of the beholder
Will the true beauty begin to smolder

A person is not seen by their outer shell
That’s how I see it as far as I can tell

A bitter heart that deceives like a crook
Appears ugly no matter how great you look

Let your heart be kind and always shine
Your inner beauty all of the time!

Premium Member Metaphorically Speaking

This poem is dedicated to a special far away friend - Brandden Blackwell. We became so close before we actually met. So close, yet so far away - never around, yet always there - It's kind of like describing a metaphoric friend. Thanks, Brandden for inspiring the artistic flair we will forever share.

Metaphorically Speaking

Metaphorically speaking
We find life is just as such
Not giving facts precisely
And meaning not as much

Speaking in forms of reference
Searching to define what is heard
It suggestively leads us to believe
It was really meant in other words

For the analogy of something other
A figure of speech is produced for it
It is given with just so many words
Even beating around the bush a bit

There is such a variety of life about
May be why facts aren’t given to all
As some may take it the wrong way
To certainly cause their downfall

Every insinuation or symbolization
You will find several points of view
Where there are just so many others
To view way differently than you

So we must be careful to others
Of what we say or rather imply
We will be judged for our words
On judgment day when we die

Many times in the matter of love
It is not always honestly expressed
How someone’s heart really feels
Then the joy is lost and depressed

As we verify and clarify in life
Searching to find what is true
There is nothing as it really seems
The bible is full of metaphors too

God says we are to test all things
Then to hold fast to what is good
As written in 1 Thessalonians 5:21
We will then find what we should

A metaphorically speaking life
Must be truly meant to be
For when the truth is found
You will surely be set free

Premium Member Thanks For That Memorable Day

07/31/2012
Written by: Florence McMillian (Flo)
Dedicated and written for my friend, Lisa Giessinger, as a special message from her to her mother, Hazel – about a most memorable day they spent together.

 To My Mother Hazel
Thanks for that Memorable Day

This poem is specifically
Being written just for you
I requested it from a friend
For she knows just what to do

That special day we spent together
Is so very memorable for me, I’d say
I want it to be memorable for you too
With a poem written in a rhyming way

We’ve had our ups and downs in life
With probably most of them being down
You raised me to know how life can be
Not easy to cope, with down things all around

Well I’ve stepped up to a new level
To be happy no matter what the hell
Of any negative surroundings to be
I live thankful that my life is all well

That special day started out so bad for me
As I was headed for back injections again
I was really happy you were taking me there
With a comfort feeling knowing we are kin

It seemed like the first time in a very long time
Where we just enjoyed each other that day
You were kind of like that sweet rose
One stops to smell along the way

In this path I have traveled
Through many overgrown weeds
It was refreshing and pleasant this time
With no discussion of what someone needs

We got along together talking and laughing
It gave me such a lasting good impression
We even ate at Don Julio’s afterwards
I sure hope you had just as much fun

I want you to know how much
I appreciate this time we spent together
Making this a most memorable day for me
To truly cherish for always and forever

Now let me tell you, that day did get worse
With everyone putting me down everywhere
You were the rose amongst the trash talkers
It felt good to know my Mom really does care

Even if everything dips to the downside
Within the journeys of my life I may go through
No one could ever take our shared moments away
They’re in my heart forever and I’ll always love you

I had the best time with me and my Mom
If I told the world, that’s what I’d say
So I really want to thank you Mom
For that most memorable day

Love, Lisa

Premium Member Matthew 7 Verses 13-14

Although the right path in life is very narrow and difficult, I'm glad to be on that right path.....

Matthew 7:13-14

As we skip along
Going our merry way
In the journeys of life
Living day by day

Smelling sweet flowers
Or seeing a rainbow
To give us a big smile
So no one will know

That deep down inside
There is a struggle within
Knowing not the right path
Just keeps you wondering

The path that seems right
Is so difficult to go through
Filled with pain and misery
I am not sure what to do

While most others travel
On that wide and easy trail
As they boast of their fortunes
My path moves slowly like a snail

So naturally I turn to my Bible
To search for a new routine
And I’ll be darn – I found it
In the book of Matthew 7:13-14

Where it told me very clearly
I am where I am supposed to be
On the path with very few others
The one God has planned for me

I’ll keep skipping along with joy
Since I am on the right track
And I’ll be happy knowing
That He has my back

Premium Member Dream Big

DREAM BIG
I feel lucky to have dreams
Not the dreams in your sleep
The dreams of things hoped for
Those happy wishes we all keep

Dreams can make you happy
And fill your heart with delight
In hopes they will all come true
Who knows maybe they might

There are some folks who think
I’m just dreaming my life away
But with all the joy in my heart
Well it certainly must be okay

Dreaming is a gift we’re given
That’s stored in each one’s mind
A form of imagination created
From one individual at a time

It triggers your energy level
That makes you want to dance
And you’ll hum a merry tune
While others seem to glance

Even if those dreams I have
Don’t really ever come to pass
At least I know my journey in life
Was filled with smiles and laughs

Maybe that’s what was meant
In those words we used to sing
About rowing your boat gently
And merrily down the stream

Then our journeys of existence
Should be gently paced it seems
With merriment along the way
That’s why life is but a dream

So I’ll just keep on dreaming big
And always have my hopes high
To carry happiness all around me
Until the day when I actually die

And who really knows for sure
Some dreams just may come true
So I bet you have a little dreaming
That you've been wanting to do too

Premium Member Easter Joy

Easter Joy

The joy of Easter
Is found within
It started way back
When Christ had risen

Now each individual
Is born with the joy
That we are all given
To self employ

The joy is from
The Lord above
The Great I Am
To share His Love

He sent His Son
In human form
To shine His light
For us to conform

It was hard to believe
That Holy resurrection
Since it had been 3 days
After the grim crucifixion

So they say the Easter name
Is from a spring celebration
Of a goddess from England
In which was pre-Christian

Since the sun rises in the east
Instead I would tend to say
It is like the Christ son arose
On the glorious Easter day

Share the joy of Easter
Let it shine so bright
For everyone to see
Like the rising sun light

Jesus was placed in our hearts
Filled with joy when we were born
Maybe the name Jesus means He’s us
Let’s all celebrate His joy on Easter morn

Premium Member Branches of Family

Young and sprouting like a twig,
Branches to come to observe when big.

From roots of parent trees long ago,
The families begin to grow.

Siblings blossom from the branch I'm on,
With cousin branches a-blooming along.

Memorable times with them together
Seem to end as life changes like the weather.

Branches separate to a new direction,
With a mate for a branch of creation.

Some family removed as the Lord hath planned,
From our tree to place in His hands.

Over my shoulder, my children branching out,
I was getting older, for sure, no doubt.

A desire to keep the tree from falling apart,
As branches get higher, a reunion must start.

So happy inside as family branches attend,
A tree's gentle glide swaying in the wind.

I'll be happy knowing when I leave the tree,
It'll keep growing--the Branches of Family!

Premium Member Just Being Nice

 JUST BEING NICE

It is not that you were lying
Something I do realize now
That you were simply trying
To just be nice, some ole how

Let me point out here what I see
I mistook your words of promise
As something that might actually be
Not a pile of dreams I hold as fondest

Those things you say right to my face
Like really dancing with me someday
Or taking me out to eat at a fancy place
It’s like you lead me on and that’s okay

Because your thoughts are meant for good
Saying what will keep me happy to be suffice
Not to intentionally hurt me, you never would
I understand now that you were just being nice

I bet you wish I could find something else to do
Like getting someone else to share my life with
I can only apologize for wanting to be with you
For my happiness with others was truly a myth

I appreciate and enjoy your company each day
I know your time given is at a very high price
As time is more valuable than money they say
So thanks for the time and for just being nice

Premium Member The Gift of a Body

Each soul is gifted,
With an individual body at birth,
To travel through the lessons of life,
That we learn on this earth.

Every body is unique,
With their own special style,
Creating lasting memories,
With family, friends and smiles.

As it is only knowledge,
One can take with them,
When their time on earth,
Has come to an end.

One special gift after death,
Of knowledge for future generations,
Is the gift of willing the body,
For scientific research and medical education.

To give thanks and gratitude,
Is much more than words can say,
To participants of the Willed-Body Program,
For their precious gift that is given away.

Premium Member My Baby Sister

My Baby Sister

My baby sister, Karrean
Went home to eternity
Her soul is with our Lord
To share His full serenity

For siblings we were all close
Our childhood was the best
I’ll never forget the fun we had
Our entire family felt so blessed

She always showed love
To everyone she knew
We all loved her so much
And she loved us all too

As she entered Heaven
My mind envisioned this
She met her first grandson
To give him a hug and kiss

I could see her holding him
Two days before his birth
Giving him all her love
To bring back to this earth

There is one more vision
Another blessing that I see
She is also up there in Heaven
Spending this Father’s Day with daddy
