I Believe

I believe in the goodness within mankind,
Even though I have seen good evidence against it.
I believe that there is good in very nearly everything,
Even though that often seems impossible.

I believe that bad situations can be mended,
That when something is broken, it can always be fixed.
I believe that it is never time to give up, even when it all seems hopeless.
And even when the odds are piled high against you.

I believe in the strength of human willpower,
And our unbelievable, uncanny habit of always pulling through.
I believe that there is at least a little good in every single person,
Even if sometimes they can see fit to do wrong.

I don't believe in absolutes. There is no such thing as total failure,
Then again, there is no win without sacrifice and loss either.
Life is a balancing act, and we are all trapeze artists in some sense or other,
And I believe we can choose to embrace that and enjoy it, if we like.

I believe in the little things, the small things, the little gestures.
I believe in the warmth of friendships freely given.
I believe in giving back for everything I receive
And I believe in hope, in honesty, in love, in balance and in peace.

Perhaps these are not beliefs, so much as they are ideals,
But I do believe in myself and I know that I have the strength in me,
To always take the high road, to rise above and to ignore,
Even if it is the hardest thing I ever do, I believe that my life is worth it.

The Lion's Den

Drugs and alchol today are a major obssesion.
Like facing a lion with all it's aggression.
You just never know when the lion will attack.
They lay there in wait until you turn your back.
Drugs are the same you think that they're licked.
Just one bad day there goes the habit you kicked.
Like the lion's attack you think I'm out of their claws.
You think you're on top and left behind all your flaws.
With one mighty swoop you're back in their grasp.
Like a lion the drugs put you back in their clasp.
The lion tightens his grip so you can't get away.
The drugs are the same thinking this time you'll stay.
There's only one little thing that they both were not counting.
Put your faith in the Lord and your strength will start mounting.
Putting God on your side that's a really good start.
Even the strength of a lion can fight God's love in your heart.

Stranger That I Know

Once again I'm staring into the eyes of a stranger.
Who she is, I'm unsure, but I have this feeling that I know her.
I've spent yet another day stuck in someone else's life,
And now I'm hoping and praying that they just might
Come back and reclaim this path that I don't know.
My feet have never touched this earth. I've never seen these waters flow.
As I find the strength to take a long look around,
I realize just how lost I am and begin to pray that I will be found.
I'm exhausted and I need my own bed to sleep in.
I try to find the strength to fight this situation, but inside I'm already defeated.
Where should I turn to get out of this maze?
Have I served my time here? Do I have any more days?
This world is so unfair and I just want to go home.
I miss my mother's warm smile reassuring me that I'm not alone,
But I'm here and I'm not sure which way to go.
I'm staring into the eyes of a stranger that I feel I should know.
