Premium Member Not Ready Yet

If you think I need to be sitting
On my back porch wishing on a star
I’m not ready yet for that rocking chair
I’ll rock to the stereo in my car
I’m not ready yet for the second part
Of this long and hard journey
I won’t play follow the leader
The leader can follow me
I can’t dance to someone else’s tune
They can’t dance to mine
I’m not ready yet for the BINGO set
And I’ll never walk the line
I may be a little crazy but that’s okay
I’ll greet each day with a happy smile
I’m not ready yet for going home
I’m going to be here for a while
There’s a big bright beautiful world out there
And a lot more that I want to try
So I’m not ready yet for that rocking chair
I’m going to keep living until I die.

When I Am Old

When I am old I want to dance aglow
With the music coming from the radio
The steps we take may be only a few
But, the"Tennessee Waltz" I'll dance with you--
Hold me close so I can feel your presence
Swaying together e'en when out of breath

When I am old I would like to discuss
All things, anything that brings joy to us
Perhaps we'll see a crowd of daffodils
In our mind's eye or on the hill for real
There may be a shepherd and flock of sheep
Crossing a flowing stream from hill so steep

When I am old I want to hear laughter,
You will enjoy my words as I do yours
Building new memories that will endure
Whether writing words or painting pictures --
To have these simple things I'd be so blessed
Because within my shell lies happiness

On Your Own

You can dance to your own rhythm, sure you can,
it is not too difficult I have seen it frequently done;
there is nothing better than doing things your way
and starting off alone on a long deserted highway.

He who goes by himself gets there soon and fast
while he who waits for the others gets there last;
there are times when it works best to be an island
if the point is to get ahead of the rest of the band.

While there is no question it takes two to tango,
why must we necessarily wish to do the tango?
we can sway just as well with our own shadow
to keep us company with the lights turned low.

Yes, you can dance to the tune, on your own!

Cant Pull My Strings

You cant play with me i'm not your puppet on a string
i wont dance for you i wont sing you cant play with
my heart like its just one of your things you cant
pull my strings or make me do anything cause babe
i'm not one of your little playthings i wont dance for
you i wont sing it doesn't matter where you grip my
strings my heart is not your favorite plaything i'm not
your puppet on a sting i will never be one of your things

Enchanting Youth

Leaving the restaurant, needs time alone. He spots a tree just outside the garden.
Too many people around, tired, frustrated, sitting to think. Damn!
Someone is coming out from the building. Hopes whoever it is does not notice him.

Pained cranium swells
concrete jungles unknown steps
Angers selfish mind.

Really does not want to be bothered, not now. She walks slowly, shoulders bent,
fatigue shows.
Wanting to leave. Held in place, he watches. What keeps him anchored.
Draws his attention.

Time worn silhouette
Curiosity saunters
Mounts with each aged stride.

Soft music wafts gently in air. He a college student and she's old, life spent.
In gardens center she sways. The spell has been cast, mesmerized.
She glides, graceful and dreamlike. Who is she waltzing? Dance of fantasy or memory?

Ages wonderment
Hypnotic vision behold
Questions unanswered

Movement catches eye, turning sees young man in uniform, who smiles and nods.
Heading for garden in long sure strides. The dance of lovers lost commences.

Loves apparition
Picturesque enlightenment
Shocking disbelief

What he thought was worn and ugly, is changed. In awe frozen, a beauty to behold,
enchanting youthful wonder.

Miracle of sight
Transpired past echoes
Perfection shining

The spell is broken when final note plays. she's falls to the ground,
lifeless she lays. He frantically runs to her side. Holding her hand,
She smiles, serenity on her face.

Illusion shattered
Misgiving fearful ending
Calmness caresses

'Look beyond outer core to find beauty within' She says
'Life beholds many wondrous things.'
Slipping into her lovers final embrace she leaves him. With wisdom shared.

Final enchantment
Dieing words forever linger
Answers precious kept.

My Life's Beat

Dear society,
Why do you set my limitations
Why do you tell me I can't
Why do you have specific expectations for me
Why must I dance at the beat of your drum
Why don't my thoughts matter

Dear society,
Who IN THE WORLD put you in charge of my life
You don't walk in my shoes
You don't fill my lungs with the air I breath
You never fed me, taught me, or even raised me
So why again must I dance to your beat
I am a man yet a son of God
So I won't dance to your beat but the 1
He and my heart makes

Slowly

Lying in soft green grass
Watching shooting stars
Sitting by the fire
Eating smores, listening to guitars
Singing songs happily
Dancing in the rain
Holding hands with a cute guy
Being with friends acting totally insane
Taking life slowly
Climbing mountains when they come
Slowing down the music
Seeing what the dance will become
Floating over ocean waves
Swimming down rivers
Suntanning in the sand
Waiting to see what the pizza man delivers
Staying up late
Waiting for him to call
Walking down stairs
Friends there incase you fall
Taking life slowly
Climbing mountains when they come
Slowing down the music
Seeing what the dance will become
Crawling up mountains
But then enjoying the view
Continue to dance slowly
Do what I never knew I'd do

Who I Am

I don't need your approval
Because I am who I am
I dance my own dance
I rock out to my own jam

I wear my own style
I talk my own talk
I do my own thing
I walk my own walk

People may give me
Some weird look
But I don't even care
'Cuz I'm the writer of this book

I don't need your approval
Because I am who I am
I dance my own dance
I rock out to my own jam

I don't follow the crowd
I do what I want
I am my own person
I'm pretty nonchalant

People can say what they want
But I don't even care
I love who I am
I think I have flare

I don't need your approval
Because I am who I am
I dance my own dance
I rock out to my own jam

I am who I am
I love to be me
I don't want your approval
Don't you see?

I don't want your approval
Because I am who I am
I dance my own dance
And I rock OUT to my very own jam

Just Seventeen

She was just seventeen
If you know what I mean...
and the way she looked
was way beyond compare.
How could I dance with another WHOOOO!
When I saw her standing there...

...
And I just saw her standing there.
Not seeming to care that she was by herself,
content with the thought of watching others dance
and prancing her hand on her floral rather simple gown.

...
How could I dance with her?
How could I have the conquest of my fear growing with my nervous heart
defeat my coward legs to be commanded by a not so sure knight;
not so sure because he sees no white on his armor.

...
Not knowing that the thoughts of her demeanor must be way beyond compare to mine,
for she is a such a lovely fruit, just waiting to be picked,
ignored by the hungry ones, who couldn't wait but to feed on red enough apples.
I would like to grace my hand with hers...

...
and the way she looked, just sitting there,
me knowing inside, she was sad to watch happiness displayed like I,
that I couldn't help to near myself and sit,
and hope for a reaction of companionship to announce.

...
I wonder if she'll know what I mean If I gesture
that the others looked pleased dancing.
Will she take the hint that we should be pleased too and dance?
I hope so...but I might as well just take this chance.

...
We are both just seventeen...
We could enjoy this dance made for us...
But I must not hesitate and ride on this gust...
If not, I'll regret this silly school crush...

...
Would you like to dance?
It's okay if you say no..
But your dress seems sad,
For not moving with the flow.

A simple look to my side
and it was too late for me to hide,
but her smile brought me back,
especially when she said:

I hoped you would say that.
