Best King Of Beasts Poems
The lion lay hidden
from the noonday heat
thick scrub surrounding
only movement a flick
of an ear as he listens
tuned to all around him
Lazily he stretches
tail slowly swishing
he draws himself up
standing full height
he now towers above
the small clump of scrub
Making one wonder
how it so perfectly
gave him camouflage
impressive as he strides forward
Roaring calling out to his pride
answering distant roars reply
he strolls towards the sound
king of all his surrounds
All scatter before him
as they catch his scent
he slowly prowls his lands
not yet time for the hunt
he marks trees as he passes
Letting all know this land
belongs to him alone
climbing a hillock
he stands in silhouette
true king of the beasts

The lion lay still and silent
under the thorn trees patient.
The odd flicker of an ear
as he watches a deer.
Lazily he stretches, tail swishing
at full height he is now standing.
The small clump diminishes now shrunken
the screech and flapping of a startled chicken.
He calls to his pride bellowing
roars across the savannah echoing.
First he claims then he challenges
his rivals soon scatter as he plunges.
In silhouette he stands against the landscape
a final series of roars, as they escape.
Magnificent beast in his full prime
this king continues to rule for a time.

contest: The Makeover
Incalculable power a god given wealth,
With paws and claws and incredible jaws;
He makes the rules and the hunting laws.
The little one to stray,becomes his prey;
He'll sleep at night and wait for food in the day.
His brides do seek the food to slay,
Leaving the king to roll and play.
Always proud to be head of the pride,
The food that's left,he'll carefully hide.
Although with stealth and extremely strong,
It's the hunter who knows,he'll do some wrong.
Shot in the head with a bullet of lead....
End on a rug at the side of some bed.

The naked ape has no robes,
no crown on kingly head
with arrogance that astounds.
The beastly fear is of being
unthroned by artificial intelligence
it created to boosts its power,
on the third planet from its puny sun
which is just a speck of dust, a grain of sand
in the array of billions of stars
on the beach and dirt of the universe.
The naked ape claims to
know all there is to know about everything
despite its infinitesimally small size,
influence and consequence.
The emperor has no clothes,
and there's nothing or no one,
here or out there,
to tell the king of beasts
otherwise.
Gaia is the Earth's mother and keeper,
guarding, shielding, protecting the future.
Gaia is fed up with humans as kings;
Earth is a mess with ecosystem dings.
Humans out of control, are now a sore;
endless fighting, threatening nuclear war.
Gaia must act before it's far too late,
to choose a new king of beasts to create.
Primates societies are too weak,
too dependent on politic's critique.
So Gaia looked at social insect clans,
with their stable, safe, old monarchy brands.
So it was a choice between the top three:
the ant, the termite and the social bee.
In the end it was the ants that were crowned
as new king of beasts; a choice well-founded.
Truth
a heavy burden
speaking loudest
from exile
The distance
and confinement
like a magnet
to iron
Imploding
within you
when ready
for travel
The weight
of
delivery
— the roar of the lion
