Potawatomi's Beginning...

The story I have to tell- was told long ago to me,
About the creation of the Potawatomi Nation;
In the beginning the Creator made Anishabe,
And the Creator told Anishabe to name all of his creations,
 Anishabe set out with a wolf, his companion,
And he went around naming everything;
From the mountains and the canyons,
To the Summer and the Spring;
He became lonely realizing, he alone had no mate,
 And as he traveled everywhere searching,
He traveled towards the Great Lakes;
 And there he heard a woman singing,
Her song was a thing of beauty,
About the home she was making for them;
 Anishabe crossed the lake to meet her, finally,
The daughter of the Firekeeper-And quite a gem
Their’s was the first unity bond, It is where life came from;
Of each other they were inordinately fond;
 Their union gave life to four sons,
 Each of their sons went a different way,
The First son traveled North, it’s color is White, henceforth;
Given the first gift of the Creator-sweet grass-braided in a bouquet,
He married the daughter of the Spirit of the North;
The second sun traveled East, into the rising sun,
He learned that fire is the essence of life;
He was given the second gift-herbs to speak with the One,
East is the color Yellow, East’s daughter became his wife;
The third son traveled South, known as “The Way of The Woman”,
The way of seeds and all that give life, the color of South is Red;
He was given the gift of cedar-to purify and prepare food for his clan
And to the daughter of the Spirit of the South he was wed.
 The last son traveled west, towards the mountain highlands,
He learned that the setting sun represents the circle of life;
Black is the color of West-Sage was the gift for his hands,
 Married to the Spirit of the West’s daughter, Black stands for strife.
This is the story of the Creator, That my Grandmother told to me,
 How my culture was started, And what our banner means.

~I've been holding on to this a while-Hope you enjoy the beginning of my culture~

Arthurian Legend Part 1

Uther, the High king of England
fell in love with the Lady Igraine
Knowing she was married to Gorlois
he decided to fight the walrus

For he was the Duke of Tintagel
that Uther wanted to mangle
‘Thus he defeated his enemy’
and took her, his wife to be

The High King delighted to tell
of Merlin’s magical spell
How he’d become Gorlious in disguise
and fooled the Lady Igraine to socialize

Tintagel castle was full of joy
celebrating the birth of a baby boy
‘Twas Arthur they had named him’
a bonnie baby small and slim

They lived in a dangerous time
where Saxons attacked without sign
So Uther gave his son for safety
to his immortal wizard thats greatly

In time Merlin fostered him away
to Sir Ectors where he would stay
Raised in the Cornwall countryside
where he grew strong and very wise

He grew up with his foster brother Kay
not knowing his real parents any way
He didn’t know he was heir to the throne
until later when it became known

King Uther died and no one knew
about His son that should over rule
So arguments broke out everywhere
who should be King, who would dare

But Merlin had a cunning plan
to make Arthur take a stand
For he was the true king and heir
a kingdom he would rule and fair

A mysterious stone magically appeared
in St.Paul’s cathedral, in the garden rear
Extending out, was a huge sword
a message inscribed to my Lord
Whoever pulls this sword from the stone
will be the rightful High King of England’s throne

A Star Is Born

A STAR IS BORN					11 23 08

 A star is born in Bethlehem,
The Special On called “The Son Of Man”.
A gift of life from “Father God”
The miracle of love given to all the world.
Mary His mom was amazed by the sight of
The angel who told of such a thing that night.
Joseph her bethought couldn’t believe the news
Of the gift from Father God to Mary would arrive soon.
The Angel from Heaven was sent back to tell
Joseph about the good tidings were God sent and real.
Then off he went to Mary to ask for forgiveness, to stand by here side
So off they did journey for a very long while,
Until Mary told Joseph that the time is soon to come for the birth of their ‘Love Child”.
One last stop before the downing of the sun,
A husband and wife gave them refugee for the birth of their Son.
As time passed on word got around that the coming of “The Messiah”
Was in Bethlehem.
The brightest shinning star glowing high in the sky
Gave all believers to know where to find “The Holy One”,
With on questions, asked why.
Three wise men they did stride, to see “The Son Of Man”
Being the first to arrive, full well knowing that
He is blessed and Heaven sent.

Objects In Rearview Mirror Appear Closer Than They Are

I sit there and read the words as I'm sitting in
the car. "Objects in rearview mirror appear
closer than they are."

I laugh to myself as I sit and reminisce. I close
my eyes and think of a deeper meaning than this.

"This," what I referring to is the days of my
youth. I open my eyes; behold, a young boy I now
see in the rear-view.

It's me! Look how young and a bad little thing I
was! Mama is chasing me with the belt and whipping
me like she's smelling blood.

And oh what is this? I can now see grandma! She's
cooking my favorite, beans and rice. She yells out,
"Come and get it hon!"

I smile to myself and say, "Oh how I do miss her!
Because when she was alive we use to have so much
fun."

There is my cousin! With lampshades on our heads
we use to play. "One day you will sit back and
laugh at this," mama use to say.

look at me jumping off the house! I use to think
this was so much fun. I'm now saying to myself,
"Oh my, I was a dangerous son of a gun."

And there's the girl who stole my heart! She was
truly my first love. She was so beautiful looking
like an angel sent from above.

There I am telling "yo mama jokes" with a bunch
of my friends. Drinking like a school of fish, it
was the gin that made us sin!

Now I see me much older now. I see me at my wedding.
I was starting to make a family now and this was the
perfect setting.

My son is now born. He was such a beautiful boy. I
to make changes in my life, because my family was
now my joy.

The joy, pain, achievements and failures in of my
life is like turning the page. I sit back in amazement
of how I've come of age.

Again, looking in the rear-view but everything's gone
as I sit here in this car. What a deeper meaning now,
"Objects in rear-view mirror appear closer than they
are".
