A Reason To Smile

Can you see the rain smile?
It smiles when we stretch our arms and feels it.

Can you see the wind smile?
It smiles when we run through it.

Can you see the birds smile?
They smile when we look towards the sky.

Can you see the sun smile?
It smiles when we enjoy its warmth in the cold winter days.

Can you see the trees smile?
They smile when we rest on it when we are tired.

You don't need an eye to cry,
you don't need a ear to hear,
you don't need hands to feel,
Neither do you need a reason to smile!

If I Received

If I received a million dollars today
my wife would receive gifts in waves
my kids would find why I'm this way
I wouldn't run or leave I would smile and stay,
If I received a million dollars today
I would make a strangers payday
some ones ship would come their way
the have nots would remember this day,
If I received a million dollars today
a smile would cross my face I'd have to say
for I know money doesn't matter not on this day
loved before it came happy, humble, living in the grey
If I received a million dollars today
I would know how to give it all away
with no regrets for without it I was who I am yesterday
but so many know $ can't buy, didn't buy what I have today.

I Smile

i smile because im happy,
yes i am very, glady.

i have you out of sight out of mind,
i smile because i didnt have to rewind,
didnt have to go back in time,
from all the pain you caused for my mind

i smile because i actually feel free,
from all the negativity you caused me.

i smile because i have no rules,
and thats because i dont have to follow you.

i smile because i have my friends,
they were my helping hands.

i smile because im writing this,
without poetry, i would not exist.

i smile because...

Table of Four

I take a deep breath
and push open the door
to the PoetrySoup convention
I look around
at the tables of four

And sigh
because I'm not sure
I have three other friends
on PoetrySoup
or at least not yet

And I see my friends...
my real-life friends...
waving me over
and shouting my name

I run over to them
and instantly grab a chair
next to Kiki Murdock
who is looking fabulously depressing
in her usual black and red garb

Sofia Shteyngolts sits across from me
with an enormous smile and her arms out
just asking for a hug

I lean over the table to hug her
then sit back down
with a nervous smile
looking over
at the crowded tables and chairs

But we still have
one more chair
left to fill
So I look around
for somebody else
anybody else

And Kashinath Karmakar
pushes open the doors
to the convention
and pulls out the empty chair
sits down casually
with a smile and a handshake

I smile
and my friends
-new and old-
smile back.

Looking Back (To: Aunt Joyce)

I look back on today and
remember the smile It gave
Such joy passes through my mind.
White roses to fill my smell
A dress that makes me fill with
confidence for the sight
A lunch so marvoulous a
king can't compare for my taste
Your words of wisdom for my hearing
And all of this equals to
the touch of my heart
I look back on the day and
remember the smile it gave

A Smile For All

Smiling is infectious
You can catch it like the flu
When someone smiled at me today
I started to smile too

I walked around the corner
And someone caught my grin
We I saw them smiling
I relized I passed it on to them

I thought long and hard about that smile
And realized its worth
How a smile just like mine
Could travel around the Earth

So when your down do not frown
And think of all the funny clowns
So let's start the day with a smile
Don't let it go undetected
Lets all start an epidemic quick
And get the world infected

For a While...

I was in a mall
Accompanied with my family that was across the hall
I was shopping for some clothes
When something made me lose my delightful blows

I can not remember what made my smiles to vanish
Yet, I remember a pure face that was so lavish
In fact, that face untied my mouth's lace of sadness
As my lips curled upward into a smile of happiness

That face belonged to a cute baby
Placed in his mother's hands of sweet lullabies...
I looked at him when I was sad
and felt so guilty when showing him a face so sad
Thus...I lifted a smile upon my face
And so the baby's eyes embraced
with happiness and laughter upon his voice
As he smiled, for it is always his first choice...

It was then when I realized
that small things can make you glad
Even if it's a baby in his mother's hand
Or the view of nature's beauty spread all over the land...

For life is short
So embrace every moment's displaying court...
For all that is needed to enjoy your time is a smile
Gifted to you by small and happy things for a while...

Smile

I remember that first smile
The way my cheek bones raised
Even when you are not near
I find myself with that stare
The smile my lips can not deny

If I promised to save all my smiles for you
You could never be blue
As you could then know they were true
Like a stolen kiss they seal our delight

As I write this for you
My eyes smile of the thought of you
My mouth weakens to the smile
Every nerve ending in my body reacts
Just one more smile just for you...
