I climbed inside a Christmas card
that sat upon my sil
a magic scene of a winter's eve
a house next to a mill
The sky ws black with a crystal moon
that sent an eerie glow
and shone a light as bright as day
upon the silent snow
I walked along a babbling creek
beneath a shroud of white
which sparkled in the frigid air
like diamonds in the night
Despite the cold I felt no pain
as I trod the frozen path
and through the frosty evening air
I heard a child laugh
My ears beheld a pealing bell
from a tiny church's steeple
as slowly walking up the stairs
came the village people
An evergreen in the small town square
grew jewels upon it's limbs
as joyfully in the silent night
I heard the Christmas hymns
Rhinestone stars did shine on high
behind the towering hill
with wonder did they touch my heart
my senses did they fill
I stood in wonder at the sight
as a tear rolled from my eye
how wondrous was this Christmas Eve
as morning waited nigh
I turned back to the portal
of Christmas yet to be
the ticking clock upon my wall
my twinkling silver tree
My journey to another time
will stay throughout the year
as other cards are gone and lost
this one I'll cherish dear
T'was the night before Christmas
and Santa was ailing
His joints were so sore
his eyesight was failing
He fretted about making
rounds for the kids
as his aging old body
was down on the skids
He'd turned diabetic
from eating too hearty
And tipping the bottle
at the elves Christmas party
The gout in his toe
was really a pain
And the threat of Dementia
would drive him insane
Being a senior
and driving a sleigh
Meant there were few rest stops
through earth's milky way
A sickness of motion
and firey heartburn
Didn't sit well
old Santa would learn
Flying a sleigh after
eating too well
Would cause Santa's poor belly
to grumble and swell
As for his heart
the elves constant bicker
Had taken a toll
on Santa's poor ticker
His blood pressure was high
from Mrs. Claus nagging
When he slept on the couch
she accused him of lagging
His son Santa Jr.
would take up the route
Next year in his Dad's
altered red and white suit
So a bedraggled old Santa
climbed into the sleigh
to make his last delivery
On this Christmas Day
And they heard him declare
as the sleigh rose up higher
Merry Christmas to all
I can't wait to retire!
Wow, Christmas in July for me
would bring a face I long to see.
Hair of red and temper to match,
green eyes twinkling, quite a catch.
Heart of pure gold, just her way.
Would never turn away a stray.
A happy song upon her heart.
Loved me from the very start.
Yes things would be far from calm
if Christmas in July brought mom.
But if that happened I know I’d be
on my way to an ever lasting destiny.
Those left behind would wonder why
my last Christmas had to be in July.
