A Strong Black Woman
Is someone who can hold her own,
She's never weak
Always strong.
She's very independent
Don't need a man,
On her own two feet
She can stand.
She keeps her head up high
Never looking down,
She's very outspoken
Holds her ground.
She has a college education
Very smart,
She knew what she wanted
From the start.
Strong Black Woman
Don't need a man to have her back,
Always putting up with
They bull crap slack.
Strong Black Woman
Yeah she may have an attitude,
She may come off cocky
Sometimes a little rude.
She may have high expectations
May be commanding,
She may be a little bossy
A little demanding.
Her words may be harsh
She may act like she don't care,
But when you need her
She'll always be there.
Strong Black Woman
Yeah you got to give her respect,
Don't disrespect
Or she'll put you in check.
Strong Black Woman
Takes care of her family,
Don't go clubbin
Home is where she wants to be.
She keeps a good job
She'll never be in the cold,
Strong Black Woman
A hell of a title to hold.
I can't pop my gum when I speak
I was born without that gene
I don't show the fullness of my hips through the tight fit of my jeans
I like breathing
I don't accentuate my words with a finger cutting through the air
My meaning still comes through
I may not act like you, walk like you or talk like you
I am still a Black Woman
We share the same passion and pain
Our mothers and grandmothers gave us our sass
Our fathers and grandfathers gave us our strength
I may not be just like you but I am you
