Dougal Cameron

Dougal Cameron 1900s
by Don Johnson
Brisbane..Australia.

Old Dougal Cameron was the man,
the cruel red desert country crossed.
Drove cattle cross the trackless plains,
out where Burke and Wills were lost.
He'd travel o'er a hundred mile ,
with bawling cattle parched with thirst.
He'd find em water bushman style,
though dry creek beds made him curse.
Little crippled Murray's' loved him best
he'd find em on a water hole.
Lost they'd perish nature's test,
yes old Dougal's heart was gold.
Fed on sugared damper with a grin,
and a drop of billy tea.
Dougal cared enough to take em with him,
got them homes with friends he'd see.
Rodger Beadmore came with Dougal,
till they found the Bollon road.
Was there adopted by old Beadmore,
and a swapped horse Dougal rode.
Many children lost to perish,
owe their lives to Dougal's care.
Many of these Boori's cherish,
one old drover who was there

Cameron's corner is in the center of Australia...Dougal had a station(ranch) Camlet west
of Bollon...Dougal found lost children and brought them with him hundreds of miles .
He used pack horses and these small children rode in the Pack saddles.
Maud Billy was one child Paddy Mellon and Roger Beadmore are some of the many names ...

Woods O' Dreary

Twice upon a town named Eerie,
The children stalk the Woods o' Dreary

Pale and white as zombies they roam,
With teeth like pearls, from their mouths they foam.

Watching and waiting they find their prey,
On the outskirts of Eerie...fresh blood on their way.

How darling they look, at first glance they seem
No different than most, 'cept for a twinkle and gleam.

Down the cobblestone path they skip and they sing....
"We're the children of Eerie! Tis death we shall bring!"

Closer and closer, the travelers they come,
Unaware of their fate or what they'll become.

Now the children of Eerie that stalk Woods o' Dreary
Have the cavalier theory that their victims are weary!

As the lamposts grow dim
The outcome is slim
That the travelers will pass
By this haunted wet grass.

So they creep and they crawl
Then let out their squall!
No more travelers you'll see
Near the Woods o' Dreary.

Oh Snap!

Oh Snap!
when the children woke up the earth had a gap,
and there were branches everywhere,
There was talk of a tornado rolling through town,
The anxiety grew and they just wanted to look around,
The chaos and debris made them exclaim,
"Oh snap!" without any blame,
The wreckage prompted them to flee,
covering their heads with baseball caps,
They ran briskly,
fearing the tornado may be following behind,
In the velocity of the twirling winds the kids knew
there was no place to hide,
If the rain comes again they will surely freak,
outrunning the fierceness of nature's outrageous
peak,
A time for cool takes a holiday,
The children prefer to "go geek" all the way.

My Tribute To Alley the Poet I Love

Her canvas is never naked for her heart always is full of desire
Her soft hands, smooth to the touch
Yet in them rest so much talent, that even the stars envy
I will never forget that day in which my eyes met hers
Her smile captured my very soul
Not to mention the dimples that make it stand out
And when she first held my hand! Yes I knew I belonged to her forever
For in her eyes I saw my children to come, our children to be
Her eyes are the color of honey, and her lips taste like so
As we both have been through so much, smiles and yes many cries
None the less I love her more with each passing sun
     With each shinning moon
Time seems to almost disappear when I hold her
Seconds turn to minutes, minutes become hours
Hours days, and days weeks, weeks months, months years
Yet in all that time that became history, I love her more today
Her vision of art
Her scent that I find no where else captured my heart
Kisses that melt my spirit
A touch that I shall never forget
A laughter that echoes in my very being still
All Alley the poet I love
