Carry me to my home Virginia
Headed south through Arlington
We can stop off in Manassas
On our way to Lovingston
Take me back to the Peaks of Otter
Let's return to Mabry Mill
We can drive the Blue Ridge Parkway
From the Meadows of Dan to Charlottesville
We'll stop in Schuyler on the way to Richmond
Watch the trees on the mountain sway
Ride the backroads of Campbell County
And see the small towns along the way
We'll raise some cane out in Bedford
In a field over near the county line
Ride the rails to Appomattox
And stop by Mama's at suppertime
We'll go cruise down the Eastern Shoreline
We'll lay a blanket out on the sand
Watch the ships sail out of Norfolk
And stroll down the beach hand in hand
Let's return back to our hometown
We'll float down the mighty river James
There we remember our favorite memories
And visit with old friends at a cafe on Main
Carry me back to little old Lynchburg
No matter how far I may roam
It's where I made my fondest memories
I'm proud to call Virginia my home

We Started To Go,
Right After, "Hello,
How Have You Been?"
A Most Beautiful Start,
Your Smiling Heart's,
Winning Grin!
Appomattox, Yorktown,
Victories Sweet.
Etched Onto The Sounds
Of Virginia We Breath.
A Most Beautiful, .... Sight,
Your, ....Magical, Light!

Sit for Short Spell
Do I need to be in lead or left behind
Or end up lost where no one can find
Perhaps exactly where I want to be
Half way between you and also me.
Middle of roader really could be called
Over hill and dale things have hauled
Ending up at dearly beloved's door
Seven years ago and then four score.
Troops were in Gettysburg so I heard
At Appomattox Courthouse was word
War had been over and finally done
Still are all in debate as to who won.
All of this started to set the stage
For twenty-first century and computer age
When World Wars were finally complete
And our enemy Germany we did defeat.
We have lots of looters and saboteurs
That all of us now must have to endure
While we in America have much compassion
Middle East has been home for any assassin.
How much longer must this have to go one
Until whole world is wiped out and then done
Some say right it truly may be hard to tell
So what we should is sit for a short spell.

The face at the window,
the feeling of dread as I tread
to the door, the mysterious welcome,
a touch on my shoulder, a cough
down the hall, a shadowy figure
in Civil War dress looking oddly
like me, blowing his bugle then
vanishing into the dark.
I am back at Appomattox,
my comrades around me
lying dead or dying.
In front of a looking glass
feeling transparent,
we stare in the mirror,
there's no image, no image at all.

Old Traveler steps out mighty proud
As we watch him paw and prance.
His rider, sitting poker straight,
Casts not a sideward glance.
In uniform immaculate
And saber at his side,
Old Bobby Lee looks every inch
Virginia's joy and pride.
We seasoned soldiers along the way
Send up our bravest cheers,
Although our hearts are sagging
And our eyes are dimmed with tears.
We followed him to hell and gone,
Through battles, lose and win.
And even now, without a word,
We'd follow him again.
For four long years we bled and died,
And cursed, and killed, and burned,
But now we've reached the bitter end,
Humiliation learned.
Our rifles, shocked like autumn corn,
Await the boys in blue.
We sons of Dixie gave our all;
There's nothing left to do.
Now Lee, he rides to meet with Grant,
On this black, April day;
To offer up his shining sword
And sign the South away.
